Is there any way you could set the links to open in a new tab/window? I keep following links to interesting sites and have it replace this site.... when I really want both sites open.

I don't think that's an option in the forum software - if it was, I would have turned it on straight-away as I find it a nuisance myself! I shall go and have another look around and see if I've missed something.

Eirian

If you want to open it in a new tab hold Control when you click it. :D

Oh there are plenty of ways to do it, Fernando. It's just that it ought to be the "default" way, rather than you needing to remember to do something.

Note that this behaviour is intended, so as to comply with XHTML standards.

There is a phpBB mod for it though:

Although this is a "non-standard" CSS3 property, which is ignored by most currently compliant browsers, and may never actually be implemented, this also should work on IE8. (Well, it might not in compatibility view. Ahem. Dunno, haven't tried that.)

In the stylesheet, apply the following properties to the postlink class on anchors:

Code: Select all

a.postlink {target-name: new; target-new: tab ! important}
Adding that one tag in the css may be a lot simpler than editing the forum code, for the people who are going to notice it. Well. Anyway.

I tend to right-click and 'open new window' when I want to keep a place but move on.

YES, I know tabbed browsers are 'the big thing', but my fingers know ALT-TAB to swap windows, and it's easier for me :p

Oh! The ICT team (in their wisdom) in the Council have disabled most uses of the right-click mouse button :evil:
