Logging off

#1 Post by giraffe » Wed Oct 28, 2009 6:03 pm

Today everytime I come to the site it has logged me off. I tend to leave myself logged in and just flick between tabs at the top to look at different sites. Has something changed?

Not as far as I know.

Maybe I keep hitting the logout button. Perhaps I'm losing my mind?

Have you changed your 'cookies' setting?
I always stay logged-on but I have to re-log-on after Windows updates itself.

I don't know how to change my cookies. I did eat a cookie earlier, but I can't see how that has affected it. I'm not aware of any updates, it tells me that there is one to be done, but I'm ignoring it at present.

[moved from /general topic - Scurra]

Right, getting stressed now. Why can I log on on here (internet explorer) and everything works fine, but if I try to use AOL, I log on, it accepts me, but logs me out again as soon as I click on anything???

This seems to be a continual problem with AOL users.
One suggestion that has been made elsewhere is to check that you are using your "correct" username to log in with i.e. Laura (with a capital L at the start), not laura (without one.)

I have also made a minor change behind the scenes which might help, although since I don't have this problem it's very hard for me to test!

Well, it's still kicking me off if I try to post things, but less often if I just try to read stuff. Sorry that previous post was in the wrong place, but it as a case of post it wherever I could in the hope that it could be seen and sorted!

You just need to pretend you have forgotten your password and get the system to send you a new one. It will no doubt be really catchy and memorable  but you can then change it back to what you want to use.

Yes, the problem with the system offering to "remember" your password is that when you run into an occasion like this, it gets confused.
And I don't know why some people are having their password rejected when others are not. Hopefully the changes I need to make to the puzzle site won't lead to the same problems. :(

I still think it's an elaborate ruse to get rid of me...
Scurra - I did try on my pc which doesn't save passwords as well as my laptop which did. Neither worked until I reset it.

I never save passwords as I always prefer to enter them for better security. So I agree that that cannot be the problem.
Anyway I'm back in now so you'll have to try harder to get rid of me Scurra.
