Now you have confused me. I thought they were painted in different years. But even worse, I thought they were only there to help with the next puzzle.

Boy am I going to need help!

Maybe the colours / patterns are relevant?

I'd say if there are colours and patterns involved in an otherwise uninformative presentation, then yes, the colours and patterns are very relevant. (In this case to the extent that you can blah blah blah that isn't too direct a spoiler blah blah blah.)

You're welcome, clocks please?

Scurra, given Chazzies last reply, should I edit that post of mine? Is it too much of a give away?

I'm still not actually sure. It doesn't really say anything in and of itself. But it is quite a hefty clue. Although no more so than SparkOut's spoilered comment.

(For the moment, I think I will spoiler-text both comments because it isn't a direct hint...)

Fair enough. Thank you. I don't know how to block out a piece of text. How's that for non computer smart?

Let me direct you to the very first posting on the main forum (under Announcements) which says "New Forum Users - please read" which specifically mentions the Spoiler tag. But then if even I don't read my own FAQ entries, I suppose it's not fair to expect other people to read forum instructions

(If you look at the buttons above, as well as the ones for bold and italic, you'll see one underneath that says "spoiler". That will hide your text for you. Although I notice that it doesn't work very well on quoted text because the text colour is different. Hmmmm.)

Know the years, paintings, artists but not a clue about patterns/colours. But how to tie it all together? Any gentle hint would be much appreciated.

Thanks to all who helped me on this one - finally got it :D

Many thanks to those who confirmed my inital idea about this one. I had one painting wrong and it threw me for quite a while.

Cheers. BB.
