It certainly needed perseverance.

The film posters comes a close second! Unless you happen to have superhuman knowledge of films and their posters? :ugeek:

I don't think that's true at all. The posters are all from a very specific and quite small set that was chosen to be relatively easy to guess (even if it appears that people are having trouble actually guessing it!)

All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

The films are the big ones that everyone has heard of. The problem you are having Kingsley is that you are too young to have seen many of them. This is where a good brain is not quite enough, 30 or 40 years general knowledge help too!

So you're saying "experience" is good for something?

Maybe it's just that inexperience is a major hinderance  Mind you she sorted out the sureallism picture without knowing what word to google. Her description that she googled was quite amazing... and it brought up what she wanted as the first answer. :o She knew what she meant and so did google.

If you need to check the words that require decoding then I can help with that

If anyone can give me a hint as to what to do once code has been worked out it would be very much appreciated, as i've come to a grinding halt :(

Have cracked the codes and got a seven-letter word out of it. Can't ascertain the next step.

For each of the rows, look up the 7 letter word.

Then looking down that list should give you an idea.

Ta. Had an inkling about that (and a PM from someone else which cleared it with me), so this will mean further Googleology lectures.

Have googled and got answers - but something doesn't quite work somewhere with the fourth on the list. Can someone help enlighten me as to what's gone wrong?

This puzzle was written especially for you, Cenwulf, since pedantic people won't be able to solve it :D
You know what the letter should be, and it is there...

[But the real pedants would argue about the last two letters, not the fourth letter...)

Actually, a true pedant would also dispute the second, especially if you have to change languages as well. ;)

See, I told you. But since you're not a pedant, there's no problem, is there?

Ah, you obviously have a different approach to me Cenwulf. When I've got a few wrong letters I automatically assume it's because I'm thick, and just move on. It's when I have so many incorrect letters that I can't work out what I'm meant to end up with that I start having tantrums. (Don't I, Scurra? )
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.
