Poetry

How do we not have a thread for this?

I'm on a group called The Daily Haiku, and sometimes people post some lovely non- haiku style poems. Here is an excerpt from one by someone called Keith Evetts which I particularly liked, on the theme: Summer

Buzz me a maze of summer lanes,
a haze of poppies blazing,
the zunzumzees of bumblebees,
a curly student lazing
under a chestnut by a girl
who reads Shakespeare aloud;
as he - crazed by her cotton gauze -
weighs each amazing word

Oooh, can't you just feel the hum of summer in that? :D
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

(Is it wrong that my first reaction was: Why isn't it called "The Daily Not-Haiku" then?)
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

I know, a bit odd. There are lots of haikus as well, but people post what they feel like and it's generally well received. :D It's mostly a very friendly and tolerant group!

Roses are red
Violets are blue
This line doesn’t scan
And nor does this one.

(Paraphrased from something I vaguely recall from somewhere but can't remember the source)

My favourite is still:

There once was a man
from Peru. Whose lim'ricks all
looked like haiku. He

Said with a laugh, "I
cut them in half. The pay is
much better for two."
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

Of course, there are also other "beautiful" poems about summer. Here's one.

Summer Dawn by Spike Milligan

My sleeping children are still flying dreams
in their goose-down heads.
The lush of the river singing morning songs
Fish watch their ceilings turn sun-white.
The grey-green pike lances upstream
Kale, like mermaid's hair
points the water's drift.
All is morning hush
and bird beautiful.
If only,
I didn't have flu.

 Gotta love a bit of Spike!
