I manage a Christmas and Easter dinner for close to 40 people (give or take a few) every year in a 750 foot house. We do it Buffet style. I remove the Tv, that sits on an antique buffet, fill that up, the table, and my daughter's little tikes table. People just grab what they want and eat where they want. Of course, we can extend out onto the balcony, and I ususally have people eating on the beds, but it's the holidays after all.

If you have a normal sized house, buffet style should work very well.

Could you use the garden too? (assuming good weather). We bought one of those garden marquee thingys from Argos, stuck a pasting table in it (with packing boxes underneath for extra support) and then covered it with pretty coloured paper table cloths and flowers. It worked really well.

Cleaning my old cooker so that I can sell it on Ebay. I've been putting if off for ages now - ugh - one of the worst jobs ever, I'd sooner clean the toilets (and that's saying something as there's three males in this house!). I've promised myself that with my new cooker, I'm going to clean it every week....umm...wonder how long that's going to last!

My cooker gets far dirtier than the old one ever did. I've always had gas before, but this one is electric, and I think the fan sprays grease round the oven. I'm forever having to clean it. And I've still not managed to change the lightbulb, because the cover seems to be welded on!

My new one's 2 weeks old so not too bad a job to keep it clean at the moment. But my times just ran out on Ebay and nobody put in a bid :( - all that cleaning for nothing! - never mind putting it back on at a lower reserve price, hopefully it will go this time.

Had to stop cleaning the new cooker mid stream and find a good hiding place for the car keys. Son has passed his driving test today :D

What I'd really like to do is hide the car  Then again he can start paying back all the lifts he's had over the years.

I really should clean the cooker before the weekend, but as it is 3rd hand and only being held together by the grime, I think I will leave it till after Sunday. I was taken to view new cookers last August I think he only took me to show me what a clean one looks like.

I've got to ask - "why till after Sunday"?????????????????????

Edit: I do know you have a big occasion on Sunday. I meant why should it not also be along the lines of "after May"

What exciting things you seem to have planned for your holiday! I can quite see why you can't wait. ;)

Meant to say, at the weekend (I was away with girl friends) we tried to go to Hastings, and there were THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of motorbikes there. It was a complete nightmare. BassBloke - any idea what was that all about?

Tomorrow (Thursday) I shall mostly be.......
......travelling from deepest Devon to lovely Lancashire to inspect my gorgeous grandson and encourage his proud parents. A five-hour train journey will no doubt give me lots of time to investigate all those tube journeys I have not yet attempted! (Not to mention getting on with knitting little garments in true grandmotherly fashion..... )
However, this does mean I shall not be responding to message for a few days, just in case anyone was wondering where I was ;)

this evening I've mostly bin... at the hospital. My daughter has fallen off her bike and has a greenstick fracture in her left wrist. Temporarily strapped up ready for a proper cast. (She's upset about not getting out of exams next week.)

Ooh ow! Hope it mends quickly.

Tonight I've mostly been.... rushing round after the children. (what's new?)
F to cricket match, late starting so I couldn't stay to watch him open the batting, Lally to Gym, back in time to see the opposition bat (and F bowl) back to the gym to fetch a tired gymnast.

I remember those days Giraffe - don't miss that at all.

And Sparkout, sorry to hear about your daughter's accident. Do hope it all heals well.

Give that baby a big kiss from me, Wulfruna! :D

SparkOut - hope your daughter mends well! She sounds like she has similarly brilliant timing to my son (who spectacularly cracked his pelvis the week of his a) leavers' ball (he is in all the photos with a tux and crutches) and b) his PE practical exam.
