I think Eirian might tell you otherwise...

But Gill is right - and it's really nice to have this system that is counting everyone as they cross the line.
Although I am in the middle of implementing a system for next issue that will show you how many wrong answers you tried for each puzzle... :D

You really have to keep a record of the incorrect guesses too! That would make for some interesting reading!

I thought there would be a log of the guesses, so I put a complete essay in chunks through the answer checker, telling Scurra what I thought of him and the puzzles!

well, actually, I usually say that Scurra hit 15 and stayed there....

Congratulations to everyone that's finished. You must all be genii. :ugeek: :ugeek:

Personally, I've managed 6 so far, which is 5 more than I thought I'd get based on previous Scurra puzzles, so am rather chuffed. Even if I have had to ask for more help than I would have liked to (and will have to continue to ask for, given my abject failure to get anywhere on the remaining ones)

PS. I'm with Giraffe on the not-keeping-track-of-wrong-answers. Especially as I keep forgetting what I've tried and have to try again, just in case! I really don't want to know how awful I am! :o :o

Well, that would be one of the reasons I didn't do that - I thought the size of the "wrong answers" file would get out-of-hand rather too quickly

I really hope you are joking about that. It would definitely deter people from trying.

P.S. I know I had about 20 answers for the last one.

So, Scurra stopped at about 15? So... let me see, staying in bed until lunchtime and spending far too long on the internet?* Yes, you could be right.

Damn, I must be 15 too.

Catching up on an old comment:
Bunnylump wrote:I really hope you are joking about that. It would definitely deter people from trying.
Well I thought it might help to deter the trial-and-error guesses - if all you have to do is enter every possible answer in turn until you find the right one, then that's not much of a puzzle. And that removes a whole possible category of puzzles e.g. you can solve the Gallery puzzle in Puzzletown like that, without having the slightest idea why that's the right answer.

In addition, you should also be pretty sure that you've got the right answer when you find it - you shouldn't be looking at, say, two or three equally plausible alternatives. Entering random things (or, indeed, aiming abuse at the compiler :)) might be therapeutic but not necessarily productive. Now I accept that sometimes you might not understand why the answer you have is correct, but that's an entirely different issue!

There's always Tally Ho! and Puzzletown to have a go at - you only appear to have done a couple of those puzzles
