You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

But Gill is right - and it's really nice to have this system that is counting everyone as they cross the line.
Although I am in the middle of implementing a system for next issue that will show you how many wrong answers you tried for each puzzle...
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

Re: Finished!!!
You really have to keep a record of the incorrect guesses too! That would make for some interesting reading!
Re: Finished!!!
NO NO NO! I was hoping no-one was watching as I tried some really stupid things.
Re: Finished!!!
I thought there would be a log of the guesses, so I put a complete essay in chunks through the answer checker, telling Scurra what I thought of him and the puzzles!

Re: Finished!!!
well, actually, I usually say that Scurra hit 15 and stayed there....Scurra wrote:I think Eirian might tell you otherwise...LAT wrote:I thought Scurra was older than three
Congratulations to everyone that's finished. You must all be genii.
Personally, I've managed 6 so far, which is 5 more than I thought I'd get based on previous Scurra puzzles, so am rather chuffed. Even if I have had to ask for more help than I would have liked to (and will have to continue to ask for, given my abject failure to get anywhere on the remaining ones)
PS. I'm with Giraffe on the not-keeping-track-of-wrong-answers. Especially as I keep forgetting what I've tried and have to try again, just in case! I really don't want to know how awful I am!
Perseverance: - the courage to ignore the obvious wisdom and carry on anyway
Re: Finished!!!
Well, that would be one of the reasons I didn't do that - I thought the size of the "wrong answers" file would get out-of-hand rather too quicklySparkOut wrote:I thought there would be a log of the guesses, so I put a complete essay in chunks through the answer checker, telling Scurra what I thought of him and the puzzles!

I really hope you are joking about that. It would definitely deter people from trying.Scurra wrote:I think Eirian might tell you otherwise...LAT wrote:I thought Scurra was older than three

P.S. I know I had about 20 answers for the last one.
So, Scurra stopped at about 15? So... let me see, staying in bed until lunchtime and spending far too long on the internet?* Yes, you could be right.
Damn, I must be 15 too.

I've done it, thank you to Strep98 and everyone else who helped me along the way, and special thanks to LAT who dragged me over the finish line

Catching up on an old comment:
In addition, you should also be pretty sure that you've got the right answer when you find it - you shouldn't be looking at, say, two or three equally plausible alternatives. Entering random things (or, indeed, aiming abuse at the compiler ) might be therapeutic but not necessarily productive. Now I accept that sometimes you might not understand why the answer you have is correct, but that's an entirely different issue!
Well I thought it might help to deter the trial-and-error guesses - if all you have to do is enter every possible answer in turn until you find the right one, then that's not much of a puzzle. And that removes a whole possible category of puzzles e.g. you can solve the Gallery puzzle in Puzzletown like that, without having the slightest idea why that's the right answer.Bunnylump wrote:I really hope you are joking about that. There's always Tally Ho! and Puzzletown to have a go at - you only appear to have done a couple of those puzzlesmaisie ladybird wrote:Thanks all - tapping my fingers now waiting for the next issue - rather wished I'd not finished yet - I'm going to have to pace myself next time

I'm working through Puzzletown at the mo - but taking my time
