There's always a silver lining

#1 Post by katsmom » Thu Mar 03, 2011 2:33 pm

Without boring you all to tears, I've mentioned in passing that I've been working on a PhD. University Politics. Bah! I've just about had it. I've done what I need to do, and NOW the grants committee has decided that they will no longer allow part-time students (ok, that was about a year ago) I've been struggling with what to do for the past year. 2 years down and 3 to go. I realize I can continue with a different prof...I started out saying politics didn't I?-But I'm bull headed, and really, when you have a good thing, why change it? So the choice has been change professors and stay a student, but loose my integrity (jump ship if you will) or keep my self true to myself and well, don't get the funny hat. What to do? Not work on PuzzleBrains that's for sure. I need to suss this out.

I refuse to change-I love the guy I've got, he leaves me alone  Well, I've been University-less for the past year waiting and applying again and again and again to no avail. (The same committee that won't fund my education is funding my research-how ironic~or should I say governmental~ is that) Tonight I met with said professor, and we finally came up with a solution....Yeah! Distance. Boo! But a girls got to do what a girls got to do right???? Please tell me I'm right. I'm going mental here trying to convince myself. 3 more years of it. Same as I would do locally, same professor, lower cost....but distance :(

It will all work out in the end I'm sure. But in the mean time, don't forget about me....and please don't think I'm daft when I post inane questions. I've been so focused on the inner workings of the minds of my students that I can't remember how to do a lousy sudoku.

Dipping in and out. enjoying reading about what you all have been up to and missing out on way too much.....I feel like Puzzle Brains is a home i can always return to when i need my comfort.....

rambling as usual. I got offered a place at a new university and have 48 hours to consider....so what do I do? Sit down and write out the pros and cons? No, I come home and read about bugs on cakes :? I do LOVE this place.

meandering no point thread finished now. Fingers crossed i make the right decision....

My fingers crossed for you too. Don't know enough about the situation to advise - but you're a PUZZLE SOLVER, and I trust whatever answer you come up with. [Yes - I know - we all take a roundabout route to get to answers, but the instinct is there ;) ]

You and I are working from opposite ends (but both equally determined) - whereas I'm 'forced' into studying and have no real interest in it, YOU are wanting to get what you want to get and are not going to be pushed off-target by rules.

Thumbs up to your professor for getting together with you to look for a solution. Two lines jump out "I refuse to change-I love the guy I've got, he leaves me alone" and "we finally came up with a solution....Yeah! Distance." Sounds like a match (from a puzzle point of view) ;)

Ya'd think by now I'd know enough to NOT post anything when processing.....Nope. Old dogs and all.

This puzzle is worse than those damned fish (am I allowed to use damned???)

I guess the worst thing for me is that the university Grants committee just handed me more money than my degree will cost to do a longitudinal study (that is of course, the focus of my degree) but won't let me enroll into the university  Bloody Bureaucrats!

Ah well, it's like a alphactor-try and try and try again and eventually you will solve the darned thing.

Thanks for letting me vent all. I promise to be good now. No more whining from this corner-I think we have that silver lining now...

Oh, vent away, Katsmom!! It's a big decision, and if it helps to splurge, go for it!! I do it often enough...

Hope that whatever you decide is right for you and that it all works out. But do keep popping back to say hi and let us know how you're getting on!! And don't forget to try to do the puzzles from time to time, for a different KIND of craziness...:D :D
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.
