I think you'll find that the best people have their birthdays in MARCH actually. Ask Strep, Gill and Wulfruna!

Fernando - hope Mummy Giraffe has been on cake duty.

I had decided he was too old for candles and bought a sort of firework thing that is meant to go on the cake.

  I must admit I am starting to become quite a fire hazard.

I remember when D's dad was 60 (and they were living in Bolton at the time.) We went up there for his birthday as a surprise, and I made him a great big cake. Our plan was to light all the candles on the doorstep and have all the candles lit as he opened the door. The trouble was that they took ages to get to the door, and we were holding a roaring inferno with 60 candles on it by the time they got there!! It was quite scary!

Our local QLM sells this amazing candle/ flower/musical thing for less than £2. You bury the base into a cake and the rest looks like a plastic tulip. You ignite the top taper and the flower opens up with 6 lit candles and it starts playing happy birthday to you. The last one I bought was still singing 8 hours later!
