...To see "The Theory of Everything" at The Odyssey cinema in St Albans. This is a cinema which has been renovated, and we sat at a table, with a glass of wine and a comfy swivel chair with cushions. :D

I thought the film was fairly well done (Eddie Redmayne was very good, in a difficult role) but I wasn't impressed by the music, and thought that the film was a bit over- sentimental.

Although I agree that Eddie Redmayne was very good, it did feel a bit like a "give me lots of awards now!!" film. :)
(There's a joke that the best way to win an Oscar is either to play someone with a disability or a member of the British Royal Family. Which is why Colin Firth was a shoe-in for The King's Speech...)

I must say that Daniel Day Lewis in "My Left Foot" did spring to mind! Same principle, I think. :)

... being locked in at work. A peaceful Homelessness demonstration was hijacked and some of the protesters tried to get into the Town Hall, so they were expelled and the metal gates put in place. We were all told to make sure our office doors were locked just in case, and told how we could get out when we needed to (a chap was unbolting a side door for us).

Might just watch the local news tonight to see what I couldn't see from leaning out of my window (my window is just to the side of one of the two main entrances, so it was noisy, but I was too high to read any of the placards)

Wow - makes a bit of a change from sleepy Devon last week!
Such a shame when a perfectly justified demonstration gets hi-jacked. I suppose I can see why people would want to try to get inside the Town Hall - but doing it with force just wrecks the chances for those who want to make the case rationally.

I haven't actually been doing this today, but has just got the photo from D's Great Auntie Bella's birthday in Carnoustie, and it made me smile. :)

Good for her. :D She looks pretty happy.
My aunt still has a few years to go as she is 95 but she also still lives in her own house, albeit with someone coming in each day to help her get up and go back to bed again.

...Gardening! Having successfully convinced my husband to spend an absurd amount of money on new garden furniture (all aluminium this time, so it should last) I felt that I really ought to deal with the weedy patios. What a task! However, I have had the robin accompanying my every move (hopping between my feet and eating the worms and grubs I've been unearthing.) Anyway, the weeding has turned into pruning / hacking all the clematis and honeysuckle. I am now absolutely kn*****ed and have hands like a builder / greengrocer. Bottle of wine in order, I feel! :D

That sounds energetic. I reckon you've deserved that wine.

I've been keeping an eye on the smoke from a fire on the ranges. Took this picture from our back door this afternoon. It wasn't quite as close as it looks.

Back to work with a bump. Two staff have left, and the one with the busted ankle has finally come back, but with a walking boot and strict instructions that she shouldn't walk too much on it for a further SIX WEEKS. So I've had to re-jig all the timetables to accommodate her completely on the ground floor. And then, for a bit of added fun, an exams inspector turned up half way through my lesson, wanting to inspect all the access arrangement paperwork. I passed with flying colours, but didn't really need that added stress!

Well done you anyway! :D

We've had the auditors in at work since last Monday and I have hardly achieved anything with all the interruptions. Hopefully they have nearly finished now, though to be fair they have not been annoying, just doing their job.

My bathroom fitters left today, I have hardly got anything done for the last ten days, but they have pretty much finished now. We are still waiting for seven tiles to fill a gap in the bathroom, that were last seen in Stockport, or Oldham, but are supposed to be on their way here.

This bathroom seems to have been a major project, Giraffe. I bet you can't wait to have it all finished at last! When D last replaced our bathroom, I just moved out for a week!

And LAT - good luck with the auditors, hope it all goes smoothly. :)
