Re: Cats
Anyone got any idea why my cat appears to like eating coal?
I've just had to oik her out of the fireplace for the second time in 10 mins...

Re: Cats
I'm not personally expecting kittens, no.
And nor is she (she's 13 and was neutered at 6 months). She has been eating her normal diet (Iams biscuits plus half a sachet of Whiskas a day). I think they are pretty balanced...
Although she has been doing all kinds of mental things lately.

She's not after something that is in the fireplace is she? Like a spider maybe?
One of our cats is lying in wait by the fridge. She spent most of yesterday there too. We think there may be a shrew behind it.

Re: Cats
Well that's what I thought at first -we sometimes get beetles coming down the chimney, or even bits of bread (that the blasted collared doves which like to sit on our chimney and eat) have dropped. But she was actually crunching the coal.

Re: Cats
Well, she is odd. Fits in perfectly with the family. Although even I haven't started eating coal yet.

Re: Cats
I released the second shrew in under a week back to the outside world this evening. The cat was lying in wait by the fridge again.
Luckily this one didn't involve us having to move the fridge out as I suddenly realised the cat had turned her attentions to the vacuum cleaner sitting in our hall so I moved that and the startled shrew obligingly ran into the dustpan I had ready (hoping to scoop it up into it).

Re: Cats
Must be the time of year - we had a live mouse/shrew/small mammal this morning. Usually when we find them our cats have already killed them (luckily for us, they are usually in one piece thank goodness), but this time it was live. Knew it was there due to all the shoes by the front door being scattered around the hallway... I did managed to rescue it and return it outside, I think it was a bit tired after a night's hiding and didn't move that fast so I was able to catch its tail.
Perseverance: - the courage to ignore the obvious wisdom and carry on anyway

Not recommended for watching just before you go to bed though, because it may give you very strange dreams (or nightmares, come to that...)

Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
