Now this is strange! It's hotter in the UK than in HK. What is going on?

We don't do things by half in the UK, it's always too hot, too wet, too cold, too foggy or some combination of the above. That's why we all talk about the weather all the time.

It was like that when I lived in West Virginia, but if you didn't like the weather you could wait a few minutes and it would change.
If it makes you feel any better, it got very hot out shopping yesterday. No breeze, tall buildings, concrete all over. I drank 2 bottles of water and a mountain dew in about 3 hours. Poor Katherine, when we got home she jumped right in the shower. Had that wet puppy smell going on and couldn't stand herself!

Now, you see. I hate to be picky. BUT. The main reasons I really love living here, in the UofK are:

It NEVER really gets too hot.
It NEVER really gets too cold.
It NEVER really gets too wet.
AND
It NEVER really gets too dry.

There are places all over the world where one or more of these things happen ALL the time. But not here. That is why the UK is a great place to live.

It's not nice heat though. It's awful muggy heat we get. When you are abroad it's like having a warm blanket put round you, here it's just so sticky. I've worn three different T shirts today, because they got so wet.

Are you refering to the walls sweating in April and May?
BassBloke wrote:It NEVER really gets too dry.
[/quote] We have issues with dry air from November through to the sweaty wall season!

I guess I can complain about the weather

Ok, I'll get the hang of this quote thing one of these days

I think the thought of a wet giraffe sounds quite appealing. Maybe that's just me...

I woz in that Hong Kong, quite a few years ago now, over the September period. It was 29-30 during the day and 28-29 at night. BUT. All the time it was about 95-98% humidity. Basically, you would step out of an air conditioned building and your sunglasses would steam up and your clothes would be soaked. Immediatly. I spent most of my evenings in front of the AC, turned up to the max and blowing nice cool mist at me.

The thing that really blew me away was watching the Gurkhas in this environment. Running everywhere, carying HUGE packs, and never even breaking sweat or drawing breath. WOW, very very hard guys in my book.

Cheers. BB.

I'm just glad I'm not at work - the Town Hall in Manchester is a beautiful building, but is never the right temperature - the only air con is via opening the windows... can get unbearably hot (and freezing cold in spring and autumn) and I think they'd've objected to today's outfit (or lack of it)!!!

today I've mostly bin trying to get Thomas to get some sleep (not a happy chappie). Of course, he's dropped off now, just when I need to give him his last feed, which means I either wake him up, meaning he'll take another 2 hours to get back to sleep again (more a problem for Sigur than me I must admit, given our split of the night duties), or leave him asleep, meaning I'll end up staying awake just in case he wakes and needs feeding (but he'll get more sleep)... arrgggghhhhhh........

One of my friends used to live in Hong Kong for half the time and in London for the rest (she was an airhostess, and her husband was a surveyor working over there at the time.) She loved the place, but hated the weather, especially the humidity. She couldn't wait to get back here when it was like that, but missed the exciting vibe of Hong Kong when she was here.

Oh and Eirian, I remember those hot sleepless nights with horror!! Next door's babies were awake and screaming at 5am today. And since they had all their windows open (and so did we) I was awake at 5am too.

I know what I'd do - let him sleep for a couple of hours max, then wake him, feed him and put him back down to sleep hopefully before he even gets fully awake. And get ready for bed yourself in the meantime so you can go as soon as he is fed.
But this is me - I used to wake my daughter regularly just before going to bed myself (about midnight usually, sometimes later) and feed her to give myself a chance of longer unbroken sleep. When I stayed with my aunt for a few days she was horrified at the poor little thing being woken up and fed at that time!! ;)

HI
we used to feed ours around 7ish then I would go to bed around 9 and my husband would stay up till 11ish and do the next feed and then I would get the early morning one. I think you have to do what you think is right and fits in with you and your OH I was lucky my husband was a night owl and I was an early morning.

Looking back and laughing we used to tell everyone that our daughter was sleeping through the night because she had her last feed at 11 and did not feed again until 2 or 3. If we were honest she didn't go through the night until she was 4 and a half and started school but she is brilliant now. (19) hope that gives you something to look forward to.

My other overwhelming memory was that after having one child that there were families with more than one child - who would go through childbirth twice!!! Having said that I have three!!!

enjoy and look forward to when you can go shopping and fun outings with them - and take them to there first theme park!!!

Or have an excuse to go to the science museum Launchpad and "play" with things, go to the woods and make cool sticky shelters, spend HOURS playing with playdough and Lego, and even have a bouncy castle in your garden for your daughter's 21st birthday  Oh yes, and re read all your favourite childhood books to them at bedtime. There are a lot of cool things about being a parent. Honest. :D

Oh and Looby, that sounds fun!! :D Lots of strawberries, I hope?
