  Just found yet another DE contribution on Youtube. It's very much of its time - 1980s electropop with "The Sandglow Marinas", who are some friends of ours, he is drumming on the track.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGz7VVXB ... ture=share

I can't remember how far it got up the charts, but it did get a bit of airplay on Radio 2 as I recall...

I've just been given a really nice CD which is a bit different. It's by Vicente Amigo and it's called Tierra. Here's a clip from Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_BqXGfvi5o

It's a mixture of Flamenco guitar, plus various folk instruments - e.g. Cajon, piano, percussion, whistle and uilean Piper, fiddle, accordian and upright bass.

Here's another example... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dam3Bdo0r4

Some of the songs have a Latin feel to them too.

It's certainly interesting and unusual. I'd recommend it as a change from the norm.

I was listening to Classic fm this morning, and they played the theme tune to the film "The Piano"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdWLwRexMRA
Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like the old "Heinz meanz beanz" song from the advert?

I'm listening to Glastonbury on the TV. And having listened to one and a half Portishead tracks I am now ready to slit my wrists. Goodbye, cruel world.

Sorry to keep boring you all with this stuff, but here's the latest addition to the "My husband back in the day" catalogue on Youtube!

And yes, the title really was inspired by the drink and the accompanying advert...

I know this is an extremely random comment, but am I REALLY the only person who cringes every time I hear the theme music for University Challenge? That double bass IS out of tune, isn't it??? :x

Just got back from a Kacey Musgraves concert at the Empire in Shepherd's bush. The "warm up / support act" was EXTREMELY random, if not to say aimless, however I enjoyed Kacey Musgraves. She was certainly very energetic and enthusiastic, and has a good, strong voice live. Not bad at banjo playing and harmonica too. :D This was not the sort of thing I would USUALLY book, one of D's friends had tickets and couldn't go, so gave them to us. :D Result.

I know I'm probably boring the pants off you all now but more Youtube examples of D "back in the day"

I really liked this one (City Lights) at the time. Obviously it's "of the era"!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTxtFtrouEw

And "Hymn 395" is an instrumental (as I said, definitely "of the era" with some pretty funky slap bass from Ed Poole, and some great sax playing from Krys Mach (who went on to play with Level 42!! ) The "stained glass" figure number 5 is Donald...

I've just treated myself to Spotify Premium. It's great. I can wander around loads of great music, all completely different genres, and make myself a massive playlist. It also recommends things you might like, based on what you have listened to. Mind you, I think I might be starting to confuse it. In the last four I've stuck on there, I've wandered aimlessly from rock to country to indie to jazz. Loving it. :D I'm also finding lots of new artists I've never heard of. And best of all, I don't have to listen to adverts or anally retentive DJs.

I think I might be able to get a job as a Spotify salesperson, don't you think??

I had a listen but couldn't think. Now you've said Coldplay, I can hear the resemblance. I liked it.

Bon Iver's version of a Bonnie Raitt song I really like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssdgFoHLwnk

I have a Joshua Radin album, I bought as I liked the song One of these Days. (I'm on my phone and I'm having trouble posting the YouTube link.)

Here's a band who don't appear to be on Spotify... What they do is to take a modern song and make it sound exactly like it was a fifties song (along with things like the do-wops and close harmony stuff.)
It's really weird but very clever.

http://bigdaddy59.com/audio/the-best-of-big-daddy/

(I think my favourite is the Beatles' A Day in the Life as though it had been performed by Buddy Holly...)

I'm intrigued by your definition of a modern song
A Day in the Life is about 46 years old.
The Buddy Holly song it emulated is about 10 years older.
