Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
They have emailed them thank you, but I would still like to know why I can no longer view pdfs.
Pages I used to be able to see now all I get is a little box with a X in it. Something is wrong and it is quite irritating.

Have you checked whether you need to update your Adobe Reader/Acrobat?

edit: I have now updated it, but I still can't open them.

Try the Internet Explorer tools menu and check the Manage add-ons section. Select Show all add-ons from the choice at the bottom of the left column. Have a look in the list of add-ons for Adobe PDF reader and see if it has been disabled.
That's my first guess, since from time to time IE will tell you you can speed up loading by disabling unwanted add-ons and offer to turn them off. Although how it decides what add-ons may be unwanted is a mystery.

It is enabled.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
there is a known fault with this
i didn't mention it before since to fix it you need to restart Internet Explorer which would wipe the info you wanted to read anyway
first step is
IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > remove the check mark in front of "Enable third party browser extensions" > OK then restart IE.
If that does not help you can re-enable third party browser extensions.
if that doesn't work
open Adobe Reader, click Edit and Settings. Then, to the left I select Internet, and then uncheck the box "Display in read mode by default". Then I restarted my computer
if that doesn't help undo it
then a registry edit (if you feel comfortable doing them)
how to
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/pdf-files ... t-explorer

Thanks I'll try the first bits.
Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
I have been sent a large pdf file as a scan of a 50 page photo album. I would like to be able to convert it to Jpeg so I can use photo editing to separate the individual photos. Can anyone suggest how best I can do the conversion?
I don't really want to end up paying an annual subscription to something that I may only use this one time but don't mind paying a small amount for a one time usage if that is my best option.
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

If you don't mind spending a bit of patience, and it's not private, you could send it to me and sometime or other I will be able to look at extracting the pictures for you, or at least make a better suggestion of how you could deal with them.

A rather random question
Can anyone tell me what the three elements of 3 in 1 washing pods are meant to be? We got some with a new washing machine. Do I still need to use water softener tablets (we have very hard water here) and also do I need fabric conditioner as well? I've always (well for several years) used liquid cleaner plus a softener tablet plus fabric conditioner in the final rinse.

I'm pretty sure the 3 in 1 thing is just lift stains, brighten and clean. Rubbish marketing nonsense really. But they certainly don't have fabric conditioner or water softener in them. As an aside, I've stopped using them because if you do 30 degree washes, the gelatine stuff doesn't always completely dissolve.

Thanks. I thought as I had a couple of freebies I would at least use them but I shall keep an eye on the results.
Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
Amazon have been sending us various random things over the last two or three months. Most are of no use to us at all.
One package was a box with two smart bulbs. Does anyone know whether I can use them as normal bulbs in a light fitting or will they act oddly, or worse still cause any damage? We don't have a hub or app through which to use them as smart bulbs as I'm not sure I see the point. If I want to switch a light on or off I am quite happy to walk over to the switch.

I'll ask D later. He'll know. But I THINK (if they are the things I think they are) that we have some and yes, they are fine in our lamps. But I'll confirm once I've spoken to him.

Ah, I think the things we had were different. They came with their own remote control. So sorry, we don't know!

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
You can put smart bulbs in a regular socket and use a normal switch to power them on and off But they work a bit differently to 'normal' bulbs so they may not last as long. I suspect you can just download an app to make them work as intended; I don't think they need any extra kit like special switches.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

Thanks! I'm not sure I can be bothered to download an app I might not want to use, I just wondered whether we could use the bulbs without.
Once I have let my son and daughter look through all the things we have received (about 30 items so far!) I will compile a list of unwanted things in case anyone is interested. Anything else will go to the local charity shop if they would like them. So far the most useful thing has been a laminator but I think son and girlfriend might have a use for that.

Out of interest, why are you getting all this stuff from Amazon?
