It's a real weepy - so don't read it on the beach unless you enjoy crying in public!
OK - I'll admit - I've got no idea of the enjoyment of that :?: I've been crying with laughter on many occasions, but I don't understand the idea behind a 'weepy'

I try to keep away from and even 'expode' stereotypes when I see them, but this definitly seems to be a 'female' phenomenon.

When we went to see Kramer vs Kramer my OH had distinctly red eyes as we left the cinema. He turned to me and asked "do you actually enjoy that?"

what do you mean....

a hero (which most d&d players are supposed to be) holding a pass by himself against the shadow and fire deamon so the rest of the party can escape with the one true ring is very dramatic and even though he may die (which as a DM i let will let players die) in fact because he knows he is likely to die its more dramatic and heroic.
its more of a challenge
im not saying that im not above fudging things so people are less likely to die but making things challenging is a good role to go down
but it is important to know which bits are the challenge (ie the 10 ft tall deamon) to entertaining (ie getting scorched as the firework flies off... not burnt to a cinder)

the above examples come from tolkens work :-D

imagine your me
youve just been handed a sudko puzzle
and a pen what do you think would be a good thing for me to do?

congrats your roleplaying ;-)

the real roleplaying is usually more complex
but basically you pretend to be someone who you have created within guidelines
and then a placed in a story thats starting as you arrive but you and your friends are the main charactors in the book
and you do what you think is appropriate for them
almost all types of books can be roleplayed.....
but i find doing the phone book hard ;-) the plot lone stinks ;-)

I have the same problem with "Dicti O'Nary"'. it's a confusing read, and seems to be very poorly thought out. But it's nice that they explain everything as the story progresses. ;)

Although I think that the thesaurus is much more flexible when it comes to describing things. And, when you get fed up, you can try killing it (since it's obviously a rogue surviving dino...)

To drift this thread slightly back on track:

I'm now onto the 3rd of the Night Angel Trilogy: Beyond the Shadows - by Brent Weeks. It has been another inspired present from my friend who seems to know my reading tastes very well :)

My in-car book is The Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson. Young boy hunting down Aliens here on Earth and killing them..... still not sure about this guys writing style. (Very easy to start and stop, as his 'chapters' are only 3 or 4 pages long. Very odd)

That's part of the aim of this thread ;) Seeing what others are reading and what they think of them might spark you into checking them out yourself.

So - try as you might - you're actually right on topic

If you haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire, then I absolutely recommend the original book (which has now been renamed from the original "Q and A".) Mind you, I'd still recommend it even if you have :)

It's on my wishlist for my birthday. OH heard an adaptation of the book on the radio which inspired him to suggest we went to see the film - virtually unheard of for him to suggest going to the cinema.

It's great. Deserves all the awards it won. The Bollywood influence is noticeable but not overwhelming (it's interesting that it is notionally "British" movies that seem to have cracked this mixture in a way that US ones haven't.)
The changes from the book work perfectly well, although they are sufficient to mean that both versions have surprises if you know the other.

some of the early scenes when the boys are young are particularly memorable. Those kids were great! :D
