 Yes, that was particularly unfortunate, wasn't it? I suppose, ultimately, if you eat other bits of an ox, then there's no real reason you shouldn't also eat that bit. It's just the thought of it really. My old neighbours went to China and they loved seeing all the different things, but said the food was absolutely DREADFUL. I think they had been lulled into a false sense of security by eating "English Chinese"!!

Oh you soon learn to eat with chopsticks - if the alternative is going hungry!

Mind you one of the funniest things I ever saw when I lived in Hong Kong was a Chinese man trying to eat a fried egg with chopsticks! He was attempting, with little success, to balance the whole thing on his chopsticks so he could take bites out of it.

K said that having pizza occasionally was about the only way to get any cheese out there.

When we were there the food was mostly pretty good. Sometimes it was rather too bland for my liking but I think that was the tour company assuming English people like bland food. Some of the meals were really good.

There are several cultures who are completely perplexed by our love of dairy produce. In fact, I have been told that WE smell like "sour milk"!!

My cousins wife had breast cancer some years ago and has been to many seminars since. Dairy is a no no on her list. We are the only species who drink another animals milk and we are the only species to drink it past infanthood.

My friend who lives in Japan says there is almost no dairy there and when her boys were going through a spotty phase she found that cutting right back on dairy worked wonders.

Well, technically speaking, I am allergic to both milk and eggs. When K was a tiny, 7 week premature baby, SHE was so allergic to it that she ended up in GOSH with severe internal bleeding. It transpires that it was the milk and eggs I was eating (I was breastfeeding ) which were causing it. They also did skin allergy tests on me and I came up with horrendous wheals on my skin. So I had about a year on a totally dairy free diet. I've never been so thin in all my life!! (Bearing in mind I'm 5 foot 9, and heavy build, I went down to 8 1/2 stone!!)

How do other species avoid osteoporosis? Surely good dairy helps strong nails and bones?

I love cheese and would struggle to give it up.

Dairy also plays a major part in eczema. My son has regulated his intake from being quite a small child and now has his eczema under control and his asthma is non existant.

I think I have dairy intolerance as opposed to an allergy. I avoid where possible unless the urge overcomes me. :D

 That reminds me, when K was little, and met her Great Nanny for the first time, she was initially really disappointed. She said (aged 2 ish) "But Great Nanny isn't very big, she's little Nanny!"

I gather I'm not the only person on the forum with baby related news! ;)

No, don't worry, Scurra isn't pregnant.

When my great grandmother met my sister and I (both aged under 2) she said "They're just like MY boys" :?

This is probably a very silly question but what is a Great Nanny? :? ( It sounds like a large goat to me but I'm guessing not! )
