But she did write Pride and Prejudice.

Well, after the disparaging remarks about "ones for the boys", I thought I ought to point that out at least...giraffe wrote:I think he just meant girly classics

Re: general/specific knowlege
I don't have any specialist knowledge. Or knowledge generally, so probably I'd have to look anything up*! I must say I do sometimes get a bit fed up when I have to spend hours on the internet.
*Actually, that 's not quite true. I do know a lot about Children's TV, but then you all knew that!

Scurra, if you ever feel like doing a puzzle based on horse racing (or even sport in general) I might manage to get mine involved

How about "types of air conditioning machines"?

I think that defintely comes under "specialist knowledge". At least we'd all know where to come for help.

Re: general/specific knowlege
I'm happy to do some research and internet searching, but really my heart just sinks at something like Lord Cornwallis. I've possibly got a glimmering of what it's about, but I just can't be bothered to trawl for film posters etc. On the other hand, something like Lord Wilcot and Lord Lang I think is quite interesting as it is focused and I think I'll have learned something at the end. (Haven't had the strength for the Lords Vetinari or Vader yet, though!) So I suppose what I'm saying is that I don't find internet trawling for general trivia at all rewarding, but am fairly happy if there's a specific area. Just as with [cut - Scurra].
Yes, fair enough Scurra. What I said related to a specific puzzle in issue 2, to save the rest of you wondering what amazing thing I'd posted.

Re: general/specific knowlege
Just for the record - for those of us that are 'slow', that officially counts as a spoiler
.
It's on the back of someone else mentioning [also cut - Scurra], and another person naming a puzzle with 'specific' information - I'm slow, but I'm quick enough to put the three together and check it out
It does make reading the story a lot more understandable having a context to fit it inside. I'm sure it won't help solve the puzzle much - but....

Re: general/specific knowlege
Well, it's been cut now because it was clearly a spoiler. I realise this was almost certainly an oversight.
However, I would remind people that, despite appearances to the contrary, I don't spend all my time monitoring the forum on the off-chance

Re: general/specific knowlege
Sorry, MBH, I suppose I just thought that as the solution is in issue 3, that it was now in the public domain, as it were. Obviously some people are stonger minded than I am (that's not difficult)
edit: that is "stronger" not "stonger"

Re: general/specific knowlege
Not a problem - but worth pointing out (especially as we'll be getting more and more 'back issues' as the months go on)

Re: general/specific knowlege
I disagree. With Cornwallis I knew exactly what I was looking for (I couldn't always find it easily but that was my fault) and I ended up with more knowledge on the subject than I'd had previously. And the knowledge might always come in useful in quiz questionssupersleuth wrote:I'm happy to do some research and internet searching, but really my heart just sinks at something like Lord Cornwallis. edit... but I haven't been able to do Lang or Wilcot yet!
There's no point in having a last minute if you don't use it!

Re: general/specific knowlege
Well, we'd have to have LAT as well - our little Marks and Spencers mini-group.
I have changed my views on Lord Cornwallis slightly now that I've got to grips properly with what it's about, and, yes, I have learnt something, but still have about a dozen pictures that I haven't been able to identify and am pretty tired of googling which I think I've wasted quite a lot of time on. But, and this has been said elsewhere, we're all different. This just isn't my sort of puzzle.

Re: general/specific knowlege
Are you googling the pictures, or working backwards from possible titles for the pictures? I did most of this one in a backwards direction.
Re: general/specific knowlege
That might work if you have an idea of the place from where to start working backwards!

Can I just join with Laura and point out that my only areas of expertise are rugby, radio and real ale. (And the real ale is only as a consumer) With a smattering of canals and classical music.
How about that then Scurra?
