Will just come prepared with no relationship with anyone, and full waterproof kit. (Does the weather mean I'll be spared miles of hearty walking? :D )

You lot needn't think that rain will stop me from insisting on going for walks... Keep me in a confined area for a whole weekend and you'll probably all be PLEADING to go for a walk in the rain, gumboots or no gumboots.

I'm not a big walker in good weather (let alone rain)

I'm always up for a walk but have never found wellies particularly comfortable for long distances. I may bring my walking shoes instead. (They are also smaller than wellies if space is at a premium!)

I don't walk enough to have walking shoes.

I'm not really bringing wellies. I MIGHT bring walking boots, but only because they are waterproof. The only problem is that they are massive. I won't really make anyone walk in the rain with me. But I might walk on my own

I'm with Giraffe. My view is: walking is ok to get somewhere if there's no other way.

 My Spanish friend and her children were over visiting yonks back, and we decided to take them for a walk with the kids in Wendover Woods. Her son was jabbering away at her in Spanish and sounding quite agitated. When we asked her what he was saying, she laughed and said "He's saying "But where are we walking TO?"" - Spaniards don't, apparently go for a walk for pleasure!!

I'm with Supersleuth. I'm happy to walk to get somewhere, or to see a view or something, but walking for the sake of it seems a bit pointless.

Good luck. I hope you aren't soaked through. I was thinking about you earlier and hoping that you have managed to keep your belongings dry.

Could be we will be paying a visit to the launderette to dry you out!

I'll update you on the weather /ground conditions once I get to Withernsea later today.

There's an example of a 'twin' item where we match :) I've got plenty of time to think about organizing and packing and stuff closer to the time. [Even though Maisie is going to her first training session this evening]

I'll throw my hat (or walking boots) in the ring on the walking issue as well. In general - I don't. I hate being cold and/or wet so I try to avoid that. Walking round 'in the countryside' for the sake of 'going for a walk' does nothing for me. [Walking round the grounds of a stately home or castle in pleasant weather in conversation with friends is a different matter - but that is pleasure in the friends rather than the walking].

I grew up on the coast and love the sea, but don't have any great desire to walk up and down the coastline.

Regardless of these dislikes I'm finding myself takine Maisie out for a 1.5 to 2.5 mile walk at least once and often twice a day. Watching where every footstep goes to try and avoid the results of the OTHER dog walkers that don't pick up their..... leavings.... is NO fun. It just needs to be done (and allegedly it should be good for me).

The odd thing is that in a city landscape, especially London, I will walk for miles from place to place soaking up the atmosphere. My walking is usually designed to get me somewhere rather than just wandering, but I am more tempted to check out side alleys and cut-throughs in this sort of place than in the 'prettier' places.

Whenever I'm in a new city I always go out for a walk in all directions from my base to get my bearings (and prevent me getting lost later on in the visit).

So - no new information about me there - you already knew I was a couch potatoe

Told you I'd ordered it :D I thought of you as I drove through torrential rain on the M62 between Leeds & Hull. Visibility was virtually nil, and for about 10mins traffic was at around 10mph. Got here and the sun is shining. I've walked along the seafront and back because something had literally fallen off a lorry on the main street. Sunshine is not predicted to last though.
However, Withernsea has a mind of its own so I'll update again early in the morning.

The roads, concrete standings for caravans etc are dry. The grassed areas are VERY soggy. I'd still be happy in trainers and seafront walks don't have to be on the beach. There are two level paved promenades.
