Fish and Chips is my ONLY take-away (due to my funny tastes in food) - but I have NEVER had a decent meal of this in London in all the years I've visited.
When we lived in London (Islington - on St John's Road which runs South from the Angel junction (South of the Angel Tube station) there was a fantastic award-winning takeaway called the "University Plaice" (just up the road from City University). It is still there and I would recommend it to anyone going to Sadler Wells Theatre which is 5 minutes away. The batter is out of this world! Then later we also discovered the North Sea Fish restaurant - which also has a takeaway counter.
Incidentally, if you are looking for good affordable food in London, there is also a super Italian Restaurant in St John's Street just a few doors away from the fish shop - called "The Actor's Retreat". I will save up Scurra and Wulfruna's favourite French Bistro just off Islington Upper Street for future inquiries...... Wulfruna I might be picking your brains for dining suggestions in a week or two, as we are off to London courtesy of OH' s work sending us to a dinner. We are staying an extra night, so will need somewhere to eat.

......mostly bin driving, or that's what it seems like, today. I took Fernando to Edgbaston for some cricket coaching as he has county trials this Friday and hasn't picked up a bat since August. Two hours driving to get there by the time I had done the school run en-route and then got stuck in the rush-hour getting to Birmingham. Then we had lunch with Grandma and had another nearly two hours driving including the school run on the way home. I know my knees will be cross with me tomorrow. :(

Ok everyone. Send your banana creme brulee's to me and I shall duly forward them. Data protection forbids me to give you the Jesters address , as puzzlers you should be able to find mine with only a small amount of detective work!!! Best send 2- I'll need a taster first.

  I'll have to bear that in mind. For the moment the best I can offer is home made rhubarb crumble ice cream!! (Yes it does sound awful, but actually it's yummy! :D )

Depends on your likes and dislikes. I'd rather have the salad than the mushy peas. Yuk.

No, I think the point was that you don't have them both together, not that one is inherently superior to the other.

No, I can understand people not liking mushy peas, although I love them. (I am a Yorkshire girl after all. Mushy peas with everything!). I hate salad anyway, but I don't like the cold salad with hot fish and chips idea. The result has got to be soggy salad, which is even worse than normal salad.

Well, just to be controversial, I love salad, and would happily eat it with every meal. It'd just need to be on a different plate. But then, I am actually officially the ideal dinner party guest. I'll eat anything, the only exception being tinned spaghetti. :D OK so who's having me round first?

I can't eat fish, but the rest of family and friends always wanted to go to the Magpie in Whitby. (We used to have a holiday house just up the road at Sandsend)
There are always queues halfway up the street at lunchtimes.

Apparently Rick Stein voted it the best place in the country to eat fish and chips

We saw his restaurant when we were down in Cornwall but there were massive queues and it wasn't lunchtime when we passed so we didn't go there.

You're A RABBIT!!!

You are more than welcome to my lifetime supply of salads << runs off to find some meat, potates, carrots, turnip, peas, ALL HOT!!!! >>

My own style 'cold platter' meal has nothing green on it  I still class it as a 'salad', but nobody would recognise it as such.

I would. It sounds pretty much like my version of a salad i.e. what everyone else has, minus anything that was once vegetation!!!!
