Now, come on, you can hardly call going for a curry with my brother (the one I am physically related to, as opposed to the one I am virtually related to, sadly) "night life"!! I promise there were absolutely no sequinned boob tubes* or dancing on the onion bhajiis involved... ;)

*Actually, if I'm truthful, the last time I wore one of those was probably about 1980, when I had no boobs to put in it...

I seem to be talking to myself again. Is everyone in a similar January ditch to me? Is anyone doing anything interesting / done anything interesting lately? I haven't. :( Although I do have 3 girl friends round tonight (one of whom I don't see as often as I'd like because she lives in Sutton Coldfield) so that we can plan our annual girlie weekend away. :D Anyone got any suggestions for nice places to visit for a weekend (probably furthest would be (North) Derbyshireish and furthest west probably Dorset? We usually hire a cottage because it's cheaper and like to do a bit of sightseeing, a bit of a walk and need some nice restaurants / cafes / tea shops along the way!!

I've mostly bin practising like mad for the shows next week. It's going ok I think. There are a few tricky moments where I have less than three seconds to swap from one instrument to the other, but I think (hope) I mostly know what I'm doing now!! Fingers crossed!!!!

I met up with some old friends this morning for yummy cake and tea. One of them pointed out that we've known each other for almost 40 years. One of them had the peg next to me in the cloakroom when I started school! After school we moved away, to places like Scotland, Southampton and Stockton, but now we all live within about 20 miles of each other.

How wonderful you've all kept up with each other all those years! My oldest friend I've known since I was 9 (she was here tonight) and the other two who were here were friends since age 11. One of them (the one who loves to plan in advance) brightly said "Shall we all book a week so we can go away for our 50th birthdays next year?"

I felt like ending it all then and there. Not just the fact we'll be 50 in 2011, but I don't tend to plan further ahead than, say, tomorrow!!!

No, second choice (Fernando's school) She got an academic scholarship though, so following in big brother and sister's footsteps. :D

We have to wait until March to hear from Kingsley's school which is our first choice.

I went to an audition for a pit band for the school production on Tuesday, and I had to swap between the clarinet and sax very quickly several times. Fortunately, the two oboists next to me had very little to play, so when I made a mess of changing instruments, they sat there and counted the bars so I knew where I was when I'd sorted myself out. Some of the markings on the pieces were funny too. Things like change to sax QUICKLY! and change quietly were on there!

Oh, BTDTGTTS. (Long time ago mind). I recall having to hastily finish playing a Mahler piece on double bass, sneak out of the orchestra to get my guitar ready to play a trio for the next piece, which involved having to tune my bottom E string down to a D (accurately) in the middle of a piece half way through, then clambering up on the stage to join the altos in the choir!!.

BTDTGTTS? I'm baffled!

And I've got the trombonist trained to catch my clarinet when I put it down on its stand and it still falls over!
