  Years ago my brother rebuilt a Norton 850 commando in his (then) girlfriend's front room. (Like you do). He hadn't bargained on the fact that he then couldn't get it out through the door, so ended up taking her front window out...  We have the same problem with getting things up the stairs here - we have steep stairs with a bend and a low ceiling. Nightmare.

We have a very strange shaped staircase. In fact Kingsley has been taking photos of it for an art project this evening from as many different angles as possible. There is a very tight bend in the middle, so when we take single mattresses down (when the children have a friend to stay) we throw them over the bannister on the landing as they would have to be folded in half going round the bend. I'd hate to try to get a double or Kingsize up.

Our sofa wouldn't go round the corner into the lounge so they decided to take it in throught the patio doors, but it wouldn't go through the back gate, so they had to lift it over the fence.

....Trying to snatch an odd moment to get at my computer  .
When I offered to put a cot bed up for Thomas in my workroom, I forgot that this means he needs it for a long afternoon nap and also goes to bed quite soon after our evening meal. And of course, the rest of the time I am much too busy being Grandma and having fun.... It will be even more interesting when Uncle Scurra arrives for a visit in the middle of next week :o :o

Relaxing - I managed to sell a number of cards at work in aid of Mcmillan Nurses at work- so feeling quite good. In total we raised £1053.00 which is the total to date. I even managed to win a bottle of red wine :D ..........................

Only problem is - I only like white - anyone like to come up for a drink?..............................

Hey, that's really good Tricia - well done. And I'll be round for my wine later. :D

Been a busy bunny...
Friday - went to see MUSE again at Wembley Stadium. :D Never been to Wembley Stadium before so that was an experience in itself. My big problem was that it was one of my daughter's friends who got the tickets, and I found to my horror only a couple of days ago that they were PITCH tickets - IOW in that seething, sweaty mass of humanity you see on the floor at huge gigs. I DID start off there, but it got increasingly awful (starting to feel my age now), but fortunately I managed to get a seat in the unreserved seating (which happily had a really good view).

The support bands were pretty average (Lily Allen - not really my thing, and The Big Pink, which largely sounded like a very loud and distorted noise). But Muse were brilliant, despite the pretty awful echo and acoustics at the stadium.

The show itself was incredible. The stage was built like the gigantic prow of a ship, with screens on both sides. There was a "pier" which stretched into the crowd, and at some points the band were in what looked like a lit up spaceship, which appeared to "surf" across the crowd, and then lifted up on legs into the air. When the band came on, there were masses of people appeared from nowhere with giant protest flags who merged into the audience. There were also pyrotechnics, streamers bursting out everywhere, giant balloons which looked like eyeballs bouncing over the crowd. They had a giant (10-15m?) silver helium filled balloon in the shape of a space ship, which rose into the sky, and suddenly a silver-clad acrobat spiralled out of the bottom of it, suspended by ropes, twirling above our heads.

The band were brilliant - I was standing and dancing and singing throughout, :D

Today was my daughter's birthday - so we went out to eat at the Waffle House, and then a walk round the park at St. Albans. This evening I've been to a charity fundraising event where one of my husband's bands was playing - more dancing, but a bit of a come down after Muse...

I now feel pretty much like I've been run over by a bus.

Golly, you have been a busy bunny! :D

All sounds great though (but I'm with you in needing somewhere with some space and a seat)

That is REALLY thoughtless, isn't it? :x Still, at least no food can't lead to salmonella*...

Has anyone ever wondered why salmonella is pronounced saL mon ella rather than salmon (as in fish) ella? I know I have... :? ?

No, but I know someone called Sam who has a sister called Ella. (Yes really!) What were their parents thinking?

According to the COD, 'salmon' reached us from the Latin 'salmo' via the French 'saumon', so we have the Latin word but French pronunciation.
But 'salmonella' is modified Latin from the name of American veterinary surgeon D. E. Salmon, so it has the Latin pronunciation.

So, does DE Salmon pronounce his name SaLmon then? That's confusing. :?

I don't know if he did or not. But even if he pronounced it 'sammon' it was modified to 'sal-mon' to correspond to the Latin 'salmo'; blame the scientists.

I must say that my mum (who was a bacteriologist) used to pronounce it as SAMMONELLA. But she might have done it just for the hell of it...

My grandma deliberately used to mispronounce everything. No idea why.
