Sounds really aweful there, Dramaticat. :(
I have some experience of injecting myself, so I can seriously recommend icecubes over the intended injection site first (numb it well - put the icecube in a plastic bag first or you'll get very wet!). If you are on clexane (an anticoagulant which I was on for 12 weeks, and is horrid, having really blunt needles, I swear!), then don't ever rub the site afterwards, as that makes it guaranteed to bruise. I suspect that's the same for all blood thinners.
Another recommendation is to alternate the sides you inject on - that way if there is still some soreness from one evening's injection, you won't make it worse.
You do get used to it, but I was glad when I was able to stop!

Anyway, you said you felt knackered and needed upper body strength, so think of this as the perfect opportunity to get that training in! (just don't go falling down any stairs and break the other leg as well)

I can definately relate to that dramaticat having done exactly the same thing last year :-o

Yes, I remember thinking how hard work using crutches were and the going up the stairs on your bum....!

Hope it heals well and you soon start feeling a little better in yourself, after about 4 weeks you will proabably start feeling really bored of Daytime TV etc.

Take Care

Jo

Thank you all for your support.

Thanks to all but Scurra of course, whose latest puzzles have made my head hurt as well as the rest of me :D

Aw poor Scurra*. It may be that I'm to blame for the ones which are making your head hurt, to be fair! But you can definitely blame him for the next lot!

*Note charitable Christmas spirit. Normal service will resume shortly.

I have to say, I don't like the sound of having to use the crutches. Do take care!

Working hard to get the bug to sleep so Santa could come. Less than 30 minutes later the little bug needed a drink and the loo. Darn it all if she didn't see that full stocking!

I've just managed to get her back into bed with dreams of silly band covered Christmas trees in her head. (that silly Santa dumped a few hundred of those things on my tree, and guess who will get stuck taking them all off!) Good lord I hope she lets me sleep for a little while tonight.

Luckily there have been loads of films on over Christmas, so I've been quite happy on the sofa with my knitting.

But Ian brought me the best Christmas present ever - a wheelchair :D A friend who snapped his achilles tendon a couple of years ago told me that the Red Cross do cheap wheelchair hire. I checked it out on Christmas Eve morning and found out they were closing at lunchtime (I was surprised they were even open), but Ian managed to get over there half an hour before they closed. I can't tell you how much it has improved things. Now I have to only use the crutches in the morning when I get up and in the evening when I go to bed. Downstairs I can scoot around all over the place - and I would even consider going out of the house now.

All I need now is some sort of levitation device to get me up the stairs

... cheering!

I had the result of my Open University exam waiting in my post when I got home from hospital. I thought I'd passed but was pleasantly surprised with the result. It wasn't until I went onto the website today that I realised I got a distinction for the whole year. Can't believe it!

As for everything else, I now have my temporary office set up in the dining room and I'm comfortable sitting in my wheelchair - although my steering still leaves a bit to be desired :D
