..... enjoying having a day when I didn't have to get up for anything particular. Although, typically, the postman arrived with a parcel at 8.30
We had a family game of Scrabble this afternoon and went to see The Voyage of the Dawn Treader together this evening. My daughter is very good at persuading us to do family things but unfortunately she leaves again tomorrow. And I have to go to work in the morning too. :(
This was one of the few days when my son wasn't supposed to be working. But he got a call from the pub half way through the Scrabble game asking if he could go in for a few hours as they were really busy. So much for two consecutive days off. He's only had about 6 days off in the whole of December.

The film was good though, I really enjoyed it. :D

MY son hasn't been out of his pyjamas all day long. And he looks a bit like the wild man of Borneo / Scurra (same thing?) because he hasn't shaved for about 4 days...

Down in Sussex, visiting M in L as she couldn't make it to us for Christmas.

Hopefully seeing B in L and S in Law + nieces this afternoon and maybe a wander along the prom later.

...having a day out in London with some friends. Had a nice Italian meal, had a mooch around Covent Garden, then went to see Woman in Black. Absolutely brilliant. I love the fact that there is a very minimal set, and the whole thing is based around excellent acting and the use of the imagination.

Afterwards had a wander through China Town and then to look at the lights in Oxford Street and Regent Street (what's THAT all about? ). Finally we went into a bar for a cocktail (which sort of got extended into three cocktails... )

All in all a great day out! (well, apart from the trains, of course, one of which - nasty underground train stopped for some time and then we had about 3 jerky restarts in the middle of the tunnel. Yes, I was freaking out.)

...wasting money watching "Gullivers Travel's" Don't bother. Nothing like the book now is it? Even the bug asked to leave before the movie finished.

... travelling back from Devon, having spent a really good week with the family. Spent close to an hour this morning watching Thomas lying happily on his back on Wulf's sofa, feet in the air, book in hand, warbling to himself - obviously reading the book to himself! He may not be talking yet, but he's very close and once he starts, he's not going to stop... Hmmm... definitely takes after the Brain family then!

Yes, this was a real treat and had us all laughing..... most of the time he just makes sort of happy grunting noises at everybody, which is fine as far as he is concerned, since Mummy and Daddy seem to understand him perfectly
But they had already noted (via the baby alarm) that when he is on his own in his cot, he makes lots of meaningful noises as if he is holding conversations with his toys and practising his own vocabulary using his mouth in different ways. This time he happened to be lying down on the sofa alongside us, playing randomly with a book (and we were not taking much notice of him) and he suddenly went off into this conversational burbling.
Despite encouragement, he didn't manage to turn it yet into either "Mama" or "Dada" - but it can't be far off now :D
It is so incredibly exciting to watch a little one gradually discover different skills and make use of them - I still feel as if I am seeing the world through different eyes and discovering things all over again..... and wish he wasn't quite so far away for most of the year!

Visualise at midnight 4 mature adults (I think) going out to let off fireworks!

Everyone was letting off fireworks - it was like being in a war zone - it went on for hours!

Later today we went for a walk on the sands at Kijkduin and watched in awe as 5 boys ran into the North Sea in their swimming trunks - they must have been mad.

I have to say though - I have photographic evidence that I was also in the North Sea today! :o  ............

Use your imaginationI was fully clothed and went for a paddle with my trainers on

I'm mad but not that mad. Hope everyone had a great time

My friend's mother (who lives in Cornwall and runs a B & B) goes swimming in the sea EVERY DAY, including, without fail, Christmas day...

Mind you the men in my family are notorious for going swimming in the North Sea in stupid temperatures. And in fact my son is usually to be seen wandering around in shorts in December...

And I remember those days when the children were learning to talk. My son used to go behind the sofa and "practice" sounds ("sh sh sh, br, br, br etc.) Bizarrely he never had ANY baby words, he only spoke a word once he could say it completely properly. Even long words!!

Interesting when one leg's in a cast!

I shall continue the voyage of adventure tomorrow when I try to grapple with the vacuum cleaner. :D

We are really weak and Ivan is still being sick. I have painful eye sockets  Dr said we have had real flu.

They turn the water off every evening - so we fill the bath with cold water to flush the loo and we make sure that all washing done during the day. Nightmare!

Travelling home - we've had a great time Fireworks on Hogmany in Holland then a walk along the seefront in the bracing North Sea air, watching some idiots going into the water on 1st January, wishing I was young enough to do something equally daft. On the second we had a trip to Delft - the square was empty and you could get a good phot of the Staadhaus and the Oude Kirkhe.

Yesterday ton took christine and i on a whistle stop tour of the Hague on foot. ( we walked for ages!) We walked down through china town, with ton pointing out the changes. One of the saddest things I saw was in what was the Jewish quarter prior to the war is now home to all the new immigrants. The Synagogu is now a Mosque and as Ton was telling us about this , I was approached by an elderly Jewish Lady, saying how beautiful the synagogue was and haw terrible it was - the only thing I could do was to agree with her. by her appearance and age , I feel shecould very well be one of those Jewish children caught up in that period.

We walked on to the centre, round the Binnenhof(parliament) and then to the pub before meeting up with Hans(who was working) and finished the day with a superb meal.

Unfortunately my 4 days is at an end and I return to work tomorrow

Tricia

ps Fraggle hope you are feeling better and the water situation is improced - it must have been a nightmare

Sounds like you had a great time, Tricia. :D

...I've mostly bin going back to collect Yoyo and take him back to the cold empty house. He just didn't get on there with the other animals and spent his time hiding behind the washing machine and not eating. A's mum was really worried about him because he's hardly eaten anything for a week. I took the stupid cat back and as soon as he got out of the cat box he was purring and then ate a whole sachet of cat food. What ever am I going to do with him??
