I don't know how anyone can get in one of those. I have a recurring nightmare about being in a submarine!!

I used to hate having to go on them when they were tied up alongside for cocktail parties etc. I knew the way out incase it stared sinking and I would have fought tooth and nail if anyone got in my way.

sorry we seem to have gone off topic a bit

yes, I think I've got it as I hate small spaces and also need to know the way out of crowded places.

Doesn't an illness have to be transmissible in some form?
Yes, I know there are some things that are classed as illnesses that aren't transmissible. but I don't believe any -phobias are transmissible (except through deliberately inducing them, which might count?)

We could start a whole dialogue about what constitutes an illness or disease. For instance Rheumatoid Athritis is one such point - you are ill with it but it's not tranmissable.

That's a fair point. Maybe it's "disease" I'm thinking of, rather than "illness" as such.
I still don't think a -phobia is an illness though. So, for instance, acrophobia induces vertigo. But so do things like a problem with the inner ear. Now I don't think those two things are remotely similar but they produce similar effects.

ailment, malady, disease, infection, viruses etc etc etc. We could go on all night but what ever it is that is causing some form of upset within the body is termed an illness - isn't it?

I am claustaphobic to, I walk the stair so as not to go in a lift. My nightmare is about being alive in a coffin

I've been MRI'd twice. I just took a deep breath (I didn't hold my breath) and closed my eyes and told the person doing the scan to keep talking to me.

Got stuck in a lift once!!!! Only for 5 mins but that was enough!!!!!!!!!

Are you offering?

Not at all. I'm in a state just getting on a canal boat or a tube train*. I'd have to be knocked out to get in one of those scanning things.

*Well, or even a real train, as Scurra will testify. He was waiting for me at the station and thought he'd missed me. I had had to get a bottle of water on my way out because I was in such a state. Pathetic, isn't it??  (N.B I probably didn't LOOK like I was in a state of panic, I just TALKED a lot to hide it. Well, a lot more than normal!! )

My recurrent nightmare is potholing. I go through a hole and then can't go on and can't get back. I feel sick just thinking about it. :(
