Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...Taking my "likkle" girl out for lunch (it's her birthday).
Warning, below is a rant which goes on for a considerable amount of time, and is surely worthy of a slot on "Grumpy Old Women"...
And (yes, I know this should truly be on the whinge thread...) but WHAT is all this "put the dinner on a stupidly over-designed oblong dish WITH another bowl containing part of your dinner (which you have to tip your food out of because otherwise it slides all over the place) and putting your food in a PILE" rubbish? It doesn't enhance the meal in any way and is just irritating. And WHY is "gravy" suddenly called "jus"? And, coming to that, why do roast peppers and onions have to be called "Mediterranean" vegetables? It strikes me that I am growing some peppers in my back garden, and that's certainly not in the Mediterranean.
Come to that, how come "vegetables" are now "SIDES"?? I'm pretty sure this is just a ruse to make you pay separately for something which should be included in the price. As for "leaves"??? WTF if that all about? Last time I checked they should be called "slightly battered salad".
Also, why do they feel the need to mention that the meat has been "lightly seasoned". Isn't that what you always do with meat?
And as for waiters who feel the need to utter the word "ENJOY" at you as they leave the table...
I have this overwhelming urge to punch them.
Moan moan moan whine whine whine...trails off into the distance muttering to herself and tutting loudly...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
... getting back in the swing of Puzzlebrains. If you are wondering why I've been so quiet, this is what happened.
Way back at the end of July, I got my Africa magazine. I gave it a casual glance, and put it back in the envelope (I was still busy with USA).
And there it stayed for the whole of August. I said before that I can only do puzzles when I'm 'In the Mood'. However, during August I found that 'Mood' was in desperately short supply. I managed to find some to start 'Ray Charles' but then it ran out.
I did visit the site as usual, but was more interested in playing Meltdown and Pac-xon on Kongregate.
Towards the end of August, my computer had a hissy fit. It was alright for working offline, but when trying to go online it had severe problems. Pages took several minutes to load - assuming they managed to load at all.
Eventually we had to get a local firm to come and take it away to find out what was causing the problem.
It turned out to be the McAfee program. The server had crashed and this was affecting the broadband speed. It had to be stripped out and a new security system (AVG) was installed to replace it.
When September began I had a sudden surge in 'Mood'. I stared with the puzzles where I knew the method and then looked around for more - so far I've got 9 final answers and one solution one I need to Google; I have made a start on many of the others as well. But with the computer on a go-slow I didn't feel like trying to enter the answers in case the slow loading caused a time-out.
I've also managed to figure out the Europe meta.
I must visit the other site at some point...

Funny how sometimes your brain works on things like this and sometimes it doesn't, isn't it? Sadly, mine most often DOESN'T work.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
I would normally agree with that, but on this magazine I seem to have got on quite well. Don't know if that's mostly because I had loads of time for this one with it being the hols, or just because the puzzles suited me, but I've actually got somewhere this time. However, chaos begins again tomorrow, so that's me useless again for the next 5 issues!!!!Bunnylump wrote:Sadly, mine most often DOESN'T work.

Oh, I've had a major spurt on this issue. Mainly because people have really helped me loads and also I spent most of my summer holidays doing it. But I just take so LONG to get anywhere with anything!!

I've been learning all about cystic fibrosis (to be able to help a pupil). All rather depressing.

It definitely is.
One of the chaps at work did a walk over hot coals to raise funds for the cystic fibrosis charity and he raised over £500. His motivation ... his friend daughter has the condition

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
...Feeling slightly smug.
Having had a major rant at work last year, and insisting that they gave me time off in lieu for at least some of the extra hours I worked unpaid, I followed it up by listing EVERYTHING I do above and beyond my job, copied it to everyone in the world and stated categorically:
I am explaining all this in detail so that whoever takes over from me as of September knows what they need to do. I will not be performing any of these tasks as of September unless I am paid to do so.
I was told today that I was getting another 8 hours a week pay.

Well, I don't think they love me (because I'm such a stroppy moo) but I think the did realise "hey, she's the only one who knows how to do that...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Well Done Bunny!
My turn to share my working week with you..... Monday first call of the day 9.05 Cutomer called to ask for something to be done on her account (Unfortunately we are the processing centre of the bank and cannot identify the customer). When I tried to tell her that she had been given our number in error and it should be the branch that woul facilitate that request for her she called me an f...ing idiot( she had previous called my colleague who was told to f... off) and demanded to be put through to a manager. I advised her that our calls were recorded and I did not appreciate the use of such language but of course I would put her through to my manager. I put her through to my Team Leader and she was equally abusive to her. At least my manager managed to get the name of the branch and her name just before the custome hung up.
Monday 10am The air conditioning started blasting out cold air and we froze for the next 2 hours. The engineers came out and said they could not adjust anything in our area because the rest of the building is hot .......so we have to freeze
Tuesday - still freezing . But today the cover to the box housing the eclectric cables collapsed as I walked over it..... and it has now left a hole in the floor about 4 inches from my desk
I don't think I should go into work tomorrow

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Oh dear, that's been a bit of a catastrophe!! Yonks ago I used to work on a helpdesk. And if I got anyone F'ing at me, I'd "accidentally" cut them off. I don't see any reason why anyone should have to listen to that kind of thing.
Just picked son up from the train station. He sheepishly admitted "Sorry, Mum, but your sleeping bag is currently on its way to Paddington".
