Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
now, I'll at that. Thomas did that to my laptop a while ago and it took me ages to work out what he'd done. However, I've actually left it there as I prefer it - at the bottom it was making my screen too narrow, so I've got it up the right of my screen.
I've also got it there at work - much improved as when I've got a lot of word documents open it means all the tabs (or whatever you call them) are the size of my bar, rather than shrinking each time I open a new one. So I can see what all the docs are. It's really funny everytime I phone IT and they log on to my machine. They always say 'you know you've got your task bar on the right....' as a heck of a lot of people move their task bar by accident and don't know how to move it back.

I'm trying to find a site, or sites, that will give co-ordinates of ship wrecks off the Withernsea coastline. (For anyone interested they are for OH to go fishing from his boat). There are quite a lot of wrecks around here but finding co-ordinates for his sea GPS is proving difficult.

I'll ask my friend Chris who is a scuba diver. Won't see him for a little while though.

What, is he at the bottom of the ocean or something?

No, he's currently sailing round the Norfolk Broads.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
OK he was back so I've tried to pick his brains.
He said that there are conflicts with some of the International GPS systems - some of the American based ones could give different data to UK seafaring charts, particularly older charts. He said that there have been significant changes to the co-ordinates system over the last 15 years or so. He said that it might be worth trying local angling club websites who might have information about the location of wrecks in your specific areas. However, he did advise some caution since they often jealously guard the exact locations because they like to run tourist boats out to the sites, so the information may be quite vague. He suggested it might be better to look up local scuba clubs instead. He pointed out that Trinity house is responsible for keeping record of all the buoys on for major navigation points but not all wrecks are marked with buoys. What they have done is to drag cables with two ships to check that the navigation routes are cleared to a depth of 20 metres, to prevent a hazard to shipping.
He didn't know of any specific websites which just listed this information generally for the whole country. He has had information passed to him for various areas, but not in your neck of the woods I'm afraid. So sorry, not that much help.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
That was useful, thank you. I found a local diving club site that gave the co-ordinates of the wreck of the Canada and the Drybrough. That should give him something to start on. I believe there are at least 20 wrecks around here. The pier only lasted about 25years it was hit so many times.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
As per previous post on another thread can someone come up with a website highlight the advances of the last 90 years. We have a friend who is 90 in August and still works in a Solicitors office dealing with probate. I have an Open Day to arrange and a speach to make

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
It's taken me AGES this evening to remember this website name, but finally it paid off. I was asked to check this out with the prospects of using it for my 'older visitors' who wanted to record their stories.
By posting a birth date and other special dates (wedding, children, events) it builds up the years with news, technology, films, music and other items of interest. You can then look at what else is available for individual years and add other items that catch your interest (or remove the default ones you're not interested in).
Since I have NO particular interest in history - personal or world - I checked the site and created my own timeline, but never have had a thought about going back to it.
One down-side is I don't think I found a way of outputting it by print or extract file - it seems to be totally visual and online (since it links with wiki and youtube to enhance the record).
Anyway - worth a try:

Hope this helps (and it may be of interest to those who DO have a liking for history - LOL).
EDIT: Just remembered how to log in - so here's my first few lines:

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
I while back google started trying to guess what I was looking for as I was typing it it. It was really annoying, because it slowed it down and never came up with the right thing. There was an option to turn it off and I did. Now it is doing it again and I can't see how to turn it off. Any ideas anyone? (It was really obvious before, next to the box)
edit: Worked it out now. You have to click the little gear wheel in the corner. Previously it was on the front page to turn google instant off. Why do they keep changing things that there is nothing wrong with?

Well I just think you're a big trouble maker.
Just in case there are any other idiots about, who decide that BORK BORK BORK sounds like a good plan, the little coggy thing Giraffe mentions above DISAPPEARS when you are in BORK BORK BORK. Instead you have to click on "Preefereences" to get back to English.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
Lucky me! I dont have a coggy thing. Maybe that's because I refuse to update anything that I'm happy with, refuse to install Bing every time I'm asked and will continue not installing anything until something or somebody tells me I have to in order to be able to get to where I want.
