Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Mcafee which downloaded itself (because I didn't notice I had to opt out) when I updated adobe off the link on puzzlebrains. Every so often it pops up tries to scan me and slows everything down. :(

Find your control panel and then find programmes and features . In windows 7 I get there by hitting the "start" button and its in right hand panel. XP or Vista might say something about remove programmes or update programmes. I can't remember. Highlight Mcafee and delete it.

Mcafee isn't there. I typed it into the search box and it said it couldn't find it.

After you made that comment giraffe I looked for and removed MacAfee which had installed itself on my computer a few months ago as part of some download. I swear it seems quicker now. I just went to START - ALL PROGRAMS and it was there with an option to Uninstall when I hovered over it.

Well I'm grateful to you for making that comment as it hadn't really occurred to me that it was causing much trouble but either the internet has speeded up or removing it has helped. :D

How do I sack an accountant? I'm talking ettiquette (sp?) here, rather than anything else. He's not done anything wrong, I'm just fairly sure it's costing me more to pay him than he's saving me in tax. And I think I can probably do a tax return on my own, considering I don't employ anyone else, and everything is fairly straight-forward. (I may regret saying that, come next April when I'm trying to do my tax return and can't make any sense of it.)

Just write to him saying you feel able to do your own tax return and could he return any papers that he has that belong to you. (If you think he has any)

Are you considered to be a musician or a music teacher?

Take a good look at what he claims for you and ask questions based on the last accounts he prepared for you before you sack him. Do you purchase musical instruments throughout the year. Do you use a room in your house solely for work purposes -be that practise or paperwork. Do you claim a car allowance?

Musicians are a strange entity all on their own as far as the tax man goes. I can help, I've filled in OH's musician tax return for at least 20 years and we have never had a problem or inspection.

I'm definitely a music teacher. None of my income is from performing - all from teaching.

I'm already claiming for travel costs, use of the house, phone, servicing the instruments I have, all the music I have to buy, photocopying and printing etc. That's the thing - I don't think there's anything else I could claim for, and it costs me more to pay him than I save in tax.

I know I signed something saying I wanted that accountancy firm to act on my behalf though, which is what I'd have to sort out.

Why are musicians so different from the rest of us then, Gill?

You're all bonkers? (I should know, I married one and gave birth to two...)

Seriously though, my husband always does all his own accounting, tax returns and VAT returns. He's never had any problems and has never had anything queried. Although he IS terrifyingly honest.

Is there something you can do to prevent something being all static - y?

I put a skirt on this morning that I wear quite a lot and the lining has gone all static-y. It is stuck to my legs in a most uncomfortable way. If I peel it off there is a burst of static noise! Then it sticks back to my legs. It has never done this before, I'm wondering if there is something different about how I washed it, or if there is something I can do to get it to calm down.

Just been looking in Wikipedia on this. Did you wash it and dry in a tumble dryer without one of those fabric softener sheets? Apparently that can cause static electricity to build up. Maybe you need to wash it again with more fabric softener or dry it either in fresh air or with one of those sheets in the dryer.

Thanks, I didn't put it in the tumble dryer, it was dried on the airer in the kitchen. It may not have had much fabric conditioner as the washing machine is a bit temperamental and doesn't always empty the conditioner section. Although it was cleaned out in the last couple of weeks, so I would have thought it had more conditioner than before the drawer was cleaned. hmmm. Interesting, at least it gives me a few variables to play with as it is driving me nuts. I feel like I need a lightning conductor!

I would put in in the tumble dryer with a conditioning sheet for 10 mins on cool as a first step. If that works you won't have to wash it again yet.

I might try that tomorrow. I got an electric shock off the car when I got home tonight and I'm sure that was because of the skirt as it doesn't usually happen.

Please - is there a way of writing a 'tick' on the computer.
I could put 'Y's and 'N's but I'd rather be able to do ticks and crosses
