I looked for some in my area, but there are none at all in my county. Although some in the neighbouring counties aren't too far.

They certainly provided a focus for our day in Bourton and we saw far more than if we had just wandered up and down the high street.

Well I have to move house first, but now there are wulfuna and wyses99 (and she buys these trails for her Dad every year) in the wider area, who knows :o

Well, I'm up for it if you are. ;) I never need an excuse to come and visit Devon. But like you said, you don't want to be planning things until you have a house. Which I hope will be going through for you asap. :D I still have everything crossed for you, Strep - it makes walking very tricky.

... wondering if my new specs are a huge mistake  I've gone from the unobtrusive metal frames to the "yes I wear specs" statement, i.e black frames very narrow and very on your face. Not a single person has commented since I put them on on Thursday. That has to mean they are not for me

I tried the contact lens experiment two weeks running. First lot I couldn't see through at all. Yesterday I could see through them by couldn't get the damned things back out again. :( I have about four pairs of glasses Gill. The pair I wear depends on my mood. When I am wearing the turquoise ones with bubbles on people do tend to do a double take...do I care? No.

...To my daughter's school in Chorleywood for their Christmas fair. It's like another world there. Get this: the students had a non-uniform day two weeks ago. This is pretty much standard practice in schools - at our school we have them to raise funds for charities; the pupils are allowed to come into school out of uniform and are asked to donate £1 for the privilege. Now, bearing in mind that my daughter's school is a primary school, they can't insist on pupils wearing a uniform anyway. They can only recommend a "dress code". Apparently, the pupils were told that they could come into school for that day in "non dress code" IF their parents gave them A BOTTLE OF WINE AND A BOX OF CHOCOLATES for the fair.  Not only that, but this was PER CHILD. So those with two or more children would have to bring in multiple bottles / boxes. It strikes me you wouldn't get much change from a tenner for that!!

Mind you, the upside for me was that we bought two £1 tombola tickets (actually I don't agree with gambling, so I was reluctant to even do that) and we won TWO bottles of wine and one box of Thornton chocolates!! I'd call that a pretty comprehensive result, wouldn't you?

Today K was playing in a concert with her Friday orchestra in the centre of Birmingham. She had to be there at 12noon for a rehearsal and the concert started at 3pm. It's an hour's drive, so not worth taking her and going home and back for the concert, and was nearly 2 hours by train today, so we went into Birmingham shopping. There is a German market (why it can't be a British Christmas market I don't know, you can bet there isn't an English market in Cologne) which is the biggest in the country, which made it a complete nightmare to get round the town. Two thirds of the pavements was taken up with wooden sheds with the stall in them, and some were quite elaborate two storey sheds, and the other third of the pavement was taken up with crowds loitering near the stalls, you literally couldn't move.

The concert was very good, they are a small orchestra of about 40 musicians aged between 11 and 18 mainly, but sound like a professional orchestra. A 15 year old played Mozart's violin concerto, they also played Ravel's Pavanne for a dead princess and a Beethoven Symphony. And a glass of mulled wine at half time rounded the afternoon off.

Pavane pour une enfante defunte is one of my all time favourite pieces. It sends shivers down my spine. Absolutely lovely.

Amazing the things you find out about people.

First is the reality of my son & his OH.

The second is party time :shock Noddy Holder & Kate Bush or what!!!

Can't swap them, but have edited the first one.

I'd have said it was Gene Simmons and Siouxie Sioux? (Noddy Holder doesn't go in for white facepaint, surely?!)
