I had a work colleague who was going to call his daughter Pamela - until his mother kept referring to her as Pam-u-lar

My daughter got landed with Maria as a middle name, but pronounced Ma-r-eye-ah (the Scots way - after OH's gran). She hates it. Mind you, a woman I used to work with called her son Micheal. Yes, he is MICHAEL but she spelled it wrong.

Like the idea of a map with pins stuck in it to show where we all are
Thanks clvrlad. Does it work in Excel as well or just in Word - or do i need to something different in Excel?
Another question. I can remember how to put pictures up on here but not how to make them smaller. Instructions please.

Character Map is a separate little application so it will work with any other program (just copy the symbol and then paste it into your document, wherever it is.)
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

I open them up in my old friend 'Paint', then use the Image->Stretch&Scew to shrink it to a percentage of the original size. Save the result as a different filename (to keep your original good).Looby wrote:Another question. I can remember how to put pictures up on here but not how to make them smaller. Instructions please.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
'Dialect things' once caused me a bit of a problem with the 'Quadrumvirate' puzzle I posted on DVP to mark the 4,444th 'Rotas' post. There were four varieties of clue - straight, cryptic, straight including anagram, and definition of a homophone.Scurra wrote:And let's not even go near dialect things.
The last of these was the problem - one of the answers was 'more' and the clue was "upland area" (moor); but Stufarq (remember him?) disputed the clue as in Scotland they pronounce 'moor' as 'moo-er'.

My husband says moo-er too. But then he also pronounces OVEN with the O as in "dog".

You?? Over-enthusiastic???? NEVER!!!!!
Cenwulf - you don't need to go as far as Scotland, because here in Newcastle the cows on the Town Moor are the Town Moo-ers.

Re: Clever s*ds - help required please!!
Mind you, I always say "ow-er" for OUR, rather than "are". Hence the fact that I can spell it correctly, as opposed to most of the kids in my school who pronounce both OUR and ARE the same. But don't get me started on that!
