American security like to be able to open your case, they don't like them locked unless you have the sort of lock that can be opened by them.

The padlock and strap were both the correct sort. The only reason I had both was that I realised the case could still be unzipped with the strap on but the strap was also useful for identification.

.... not going to Falmouth!

I thought our holiday cottage was above Falmouth harbour, but in fact it was on the opposite headland, so woke up with the view of Pendennis Castle, stunning views, and so quiet and peaceful, burt Falmouth was 30 miles away, Oh well!

Ah but it's lovely there. We visited that area loads because Dibble was living in Falmouth. The thing is, it sounds so crazy that it's so far away but looks so near - but with all the little creeks and inlets it's miles round to the next bits on the coast, isn't it?

Hope you enjoy the peace and the views strep even if you can't wander down to Falmouth.

Venturing out for the first time since the snow and ice (who said the I word????). Well, it was last night for dinner with the girls, but hey.

Seriously, I'm so nervous about navigating snowy roads and pavements after coming off worse in my encounter with ice in 2010, I was scared about walking down pavements that are clear of snow and ice, but still have some of it at the side. I hope it goes away soon.

After what you went through, I'm not surprised. I nearly went for a Burton in our school car park this week and have succeeded in wrenching my back.

Would have been even better had my new camera not lost all the photos, I knew there was a reason I never had a camera for years

Do you know what? I much preferred having a camera with film in it. I never once lost any photos and they are all printed off, whereas most of the ones I take end up staying on the camera or on the computer because it is so much of a faff to do anything with them. That's a real shame, Strep.

Are you sure the photos are lost - not just saved somewhere different? Ie it took me a while to realise my camera saved photos to internal memory or to removable memory card.

My supermarket has a photo machine so I just periodically download my photos and save to a CD and at the same time print out the ones I want to be able to show around. It only takes a few minutes and paying the extra for a CD means I have back up should anything happen to the computer.

I download my pics on to the laptop, then pick out the ones I want to print, upload them to Snapfish (other photo printing websites exist) and tell them to print them. That way I can also send links to the pics I've uploaded to other people (eg doting grandparents) so they can download the pics themselves (or order them from the site direct).
So, not only can I sneakily download them at work, but I've also got an extra online backup should anything happen to my laptop/external harddrive backup here.

I was going to ask about recommendations for photo sharing websites as most of the time we were in NY a friend of my daughter's was with us so if I put my pics on one she will also be able to see them.

.... Visiting Maisie again aand getting the financial side sorted out. 4 weeks and we have a new member of the family.

Had a lovely moment of genuine humour last night at the bar. An older couple (60+) were part of a mixed group and were talking about how old fashioned and boring the Cricket Club was, and the husband called over to me, "Hey, Chris - when do the strippers come on?"

Without missing a beat, I looked him in the eye and said in all seriousness....

"When they pay me enough"

The group disolved in laugher and the women were by far the worst

Well, hopefully, when you have your act nice and slick, you'll be able to deliver some striptease dance demonstrations as well as EXCEL and PAINT in Withensea? Looking forward to that.   I can run you up a nice little fireman outfit with velcro buttons if you like...

Now that should be interesting! :D

Today I have been at work - the first day of my new job. I had the first interview the day before I went to New York and a second one last thursday, the day after I got back. Then the following morning I got an email asking me if I could start today! It's been a bit of a whirlwind 10 days. :o It's nice to feel useful again though. :D
