I think that's brilliant, LAT, especially in this current economic climate. Well done you - you really deserved it. Hope it turns out to be a really good job. :D (I was really chuffed about this. Great news, eh?) :D :D

Earlier on...went for a walk in the countryside with my friend Jill. Failed utterly to follow the description of the walk from the book and got lost...but I just decided we should find our own walk, which ended up being really nice! :D Then had a pub lunch.

This evening, went with three friends to see Woman In Black (the film with Daniel Radcliffe in it). It was one of those which REALLY makes you jump out of your seat. The setting of Eel Marsh House was very good - it was exactly as I had imagined it. And despite Daniel Radcliffe having to be shot on a steam train (Hogwarts Express?) and having to creep up and down old staircases with his disturbingly large and close set eyes looking frightened (was expecting a Dementor to pop out of the locked room at any moment) he actually did a pretty good job. Definitely worth a watch, but I'm not personally convinced that its 12A rating was entirely appropriate. I wouldn't have taken a 12 year old to see it - it is definitely nightmare material for impressionable minds.

Daniel Radcliffe has been doing the rounds of interviews and in pretty much every one of them I have seen he has said "don't take a 12-year old to see this." :)
I have a lot of sympathy with the film censors over this issue. The problem is that in recent years there have been a lot of explicit horror movies with very vivid and direct "in your face" special effects. Unfortunately this means that the really, really scary movies - i.e. the ones that leave everything to your imagination - can no longer be given the top certificates simply because they don't show anything remotely graphic. (And, of course, 12A doesn't mean "take your 8 year old to see this film"!)

Anyway, I went to see the Muppets instead. Which was just wonderful. And perfectly safe for an 8 year old to see. Although it will probably be wasted on them...

That's the next on my list. Unfortunately I have nobody else who will go to see it with me.

I'm looking forward to "The Woman in the Fifth" which is out soon. I read the book, and think it will make a great film. I see it has Kristen Scott Thomas cast as Margit, who would be perfect.

I know what you are saying about the censors having a difficult job. But to my mind, a terrifying ghostly face appearing at windows, and a sinister figure in the corner of a burning room inspiring a child to set light to herself with an oil lamp is DEFINITELY a no no for most teenagers. (Spoilered because of plot spoilers in case anyone is going to watch it. )

I forgot that you think that all teenagers are either ill-mannered louts or naive innocents. :D :D :D

 When have I ever said that? I know you are joking, but honestly, if I wasn't aware that every child was different I should be sacked. But truly, if I had taken Dibble to see that when he was 12, he would have been having night terrors and sleepwalking afterwards. And he was neither an "ill-mannered lout" nor a "naive innocent".

....to Birmingham for the Birmingham Bassoon Choir bassoon day!

32 bassoons all playing 76 trombones (if you see what I mean! ) Lots of different activities and ensembles through the day. We made reeds this afternoon and I was tempted into buying some bits and pieces to do some reedmaking at home.
