Re: Today I've mostly bin...
That's a really nice idea. I must admit it did cross my mind that when K gets married they will have problems knowing what to ask for as gifts (as they have already set up a home together). That's actually a really good suggestion.

Taking my friends Mum and aunt out for lunch ( bothe in their 70's) My friend is on holiday and asked me to check up on her Mum. My sister and I call Elaine's Mum our other mother as she has always been in our life since our own Mum died many years ago-so it was a very enjoyable

Welcoming Thomas on his visit to Grandma and Grandad..... . Oh, and it was quite nice to see his chauffeurs also.....
However, the first thing he did was to run into the front room to check out if anyone else might be here as well - and then jump up and down in excitement at the sight of Uncle Scurra (though he did draw the line at giving him a kiss...... can't think why?)

Because he's too prickly? Most children have a problem with kissing doormats...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Doing all kinds of horrible jobs (like washing cobwebs out of the porch, weeding, cleaning and washing. Anyway, I felt so virtuous that I thought I deserved to sit in the sunshine on my patio (which is very private) and play the guitar a bit. I'm horribly out of practice and was attempting to sight read Handel's aria from Ombra Mai Fu. Obviously, completely oblivious to a whole row of faces which had materialised over the fence from next door. How embarrassing.

Looked out of the window this morning and realised that my back tyre was quite flat. Been to see friendly tyre people and they have repaired it. Better today than Friday!

...driving home from Devon. Have had a fab week watching Thomas make his grandparents (and Uncle Scurra) go all gooey! Will sort out some pics soon.

Arrived home from Somerset about an hour ago (stopped at our local for lunch along the way). The quickest journey back ever! The weather could have been better but at least we enjoyed seeing the grandsons and family.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Going back to work. Boo hiss. Everyone wanted to know what I'd been up to all weekend. Somehow I don't think they'd understand... One of my colleagues commented "you're always off doing something with your friends. You're so lucky!"
I began contesting this comment, but then realised I'm away weekend after next as well. No puzzles in that one though, and most likely far fewer crazy footwear scenarios. Note to self...remember purple fluffy slippers again...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
K came round this evening, armed with a big bunch of flowers for me. She said she wanted to get me some for Mother's day but they were all stupidly expensive. So she got me some today instead. (Isn't she a sweetie?)
Then we spent quite a while on Sibelius cobbling together an easy sheet music version of the Harry Potter Hedwig's theme for violins, flutes and glockenspeil so she can try it out on her little primary school orchestra. Amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.
Oh, and Gill - she loved the surprise of your engagement present!

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Glad she liked her present. I hope it traveled well.
I'm hoping flowers travel well too. OH's aunt died and her funeral is Wednesday. The family were discussing flowers and it suddenly dawned on me that my sons OH is a florist although she's no longer a working florist. Who better to make them up. Except they will have to travel from Leeds to Ipswich on Tuesday The rub of it is Hannah comes from Ipswich but she's never going to visit her parents on the weekends I need her to be.

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
Do send Colin and his family my condolences. Hope the flowers survive the experience!! That's a nice idea to make them personal.
I just had my daughter ring me up and, without speaking to explain, played me the sax part for Sir Duke over the phone. She was just so chuffed that she'd mastered it she wanted to share it with someone, and her bf is out at work!!

I thought I was going mad at first because I didn't see who it was who rang me straight away.

That's quite a skill. Not sure when you could actually USE that though...well apart from to wind you up of course...

Re: Today I've mostly bin...
... getting ready for a party! We're having a 3rd birthday party today since his birthday is midweek. No idea what he's going to like best, but I suspect it'll be the balloons rather than this actual presents!
Mind you, he thought it was his birthday yesterday when I found his 'little man' - the driver from his red racing car that he lost about a year ago.. he's not let it out of his hands since...
