Sorry. I now realise that I rather rashly offered to give a talk to some colleagues on 2 June, so am not going to be able to make it.

So is the plan still the 7th August for the London trip? If so - count me in - one of the few weekends I'm in UK this summer

:D Yes (well, no-one's really objected yet!!). Excellent. It will be lovely to meet you as well! When I've got everyone's hands up as to who's coming, I'll get where and when to meet up finalised. LAT and Scurra have kindly agreed to try to sort out a route and some ideas of where to go and what to do. :D

Cotswolds Meet 2nd June 2010

Right, I've just been trying to think of some ideas of what to do. Obviously these are just suggestions and I'm very happy to go with the flow of whatever anyone fancies doing.

My thoughts are:

Either:
Meet at a pub for some lunch, have a chance for a chat and general catch up.

OR (Obviously this it totally weather dependent)

picnic somewhere in or near the village (which I'm happy to make just as long as anyone who wants it chips in a bit for the cost and tells me what they want to eat).

Followed by

General mooch around the village / walk / look at model village or whatever there is.

OR

Murder Mystery Trail
A 2.5 mile walk with clues and a map which leads you from one place to another, which starts at the village and encompasses some of the countryside around. (Which I've just ordered - and since I managed to get it for £3 don't care if it never gets used if anyone thinks this is a stupid idea or it's peeing with rain!! I have no idea what it will be like but at the very least it should be a laugh!!)

We COULD then finish off by getting something to eat for our tea and then home or we could just go home after this, depending when folk have to get back.

Thoughts?

(So far I THINK it's
Me
Giraffe
3 Girafflets
Looby
Scurra
Gill
Possible LAT depending on work

BUT anyone is very welcome. The more the merrier. If anyone is concerned about transport please let me know and we'll see what we can do. :D

Well, I've got my murder mystery booklet.

Not sure what it would be like but it's got to be worth a try. It says it's 2 .5 miles and should take about 2 hours. On a quick scan, it seems to go along the River Windrush, past the Cotswold Toy and Motoring Museum, past the site of a Roman encampment, a dragonfly maze, and other points of interest. It also looks like it passes a few pubs...(why did I agree to drive again?  )

Here's an excerpt:
The Landlady's Last Orders
Regulars at the town's most popular watering hole, the Long Arms, were stunned to hear of the death of the licensee yesterday. The police officer in charge of the investigation has confirmed that they are treating the landlady's death as "suspicious". If you can uncover the truth about who took the publican's life, and how they did so, you could win a prize!!

i am so sad to miss this - it looks a lot of fun - many years ago i went on a treasure hunt in the car with a group of friends and thought it was brilliant. Hopefully work will ease up eventually. At least i have London to look forward to.

Last car treasure hunt I did was dreadful, but that might have been more due to the fact that OH wasn't there, so Kingsley was navigating (aged 6) assisted by Fernando (aged 4 or 5) and not helped much by baby Lally.

This mystery walk sounds great!

Well, I'm glad about that Fernando. Because I'm relying on your map reading skills and common sense so that we don't all get horribly lost... (Ask Scurra or LAT. I have the WORST sense of direction in the whole world!! )

Multimap and the AA both tell me it will take just under 2 hours, so I reckon we can be there form 11am. Whatever suits the rest of you.

Scurra can get to me for 10:05, and it should take us between 2 and 2 and a half hours depending on our route. So I'm thinking we should be there getting parked (there's a great big carpark outside the town as I recall vaguely) somewhere between 12 30 and 1pm (ish). Does anyone else need a lift from this way?

Are we any further forward on setting an arrival time?
My journey should be about 2 hours (depending on the M4) but I have no idea of the area at all so need a definite meeting place.
You said there is a big carpark outside town, Bunnylump - on which road?

The idea of a puzzle walk sounds great - and the waether forcast is hopeful.

Since I haven't seen anyone else express a preference I would go for the pub-lunch, but if something different has been decided then that's fine.
There's no point in having a last minute if you don't use it!

Looby - I've pm'd you!!
http://www.bourtoninfo.com/directions.aspx
If you click on the town map it gets bigger. I was thinking of meeting in the car park in Station Road. I am hoping that Scurra and I will be definitely there between 12 30 and 12 45. If we manage to get there any earlier I'll drag him to have a look at suitable pubs (I have been there a long time ago but can't remember much about it!!)

I'll pm you all with my mobile number too.

If anyone else would like to join us (or suddenly finds that they can skive off work!!) it would be lovely to see you. PM me and I'll give you my mobile number so we can arrange to meet up.

I'll pm you my mobile.

Yes, that's the one I meant, and I think that would be ok. I suppose the only potential problem would be if the car park was full. If it is, just text me where you are and we'll find you!!

 If you can't find each other, then you don't deserve the title 'Puzzlers' ;)

Hope you all have a great time, and think of me stuck at work :D
