Hi all, Ive been putting together a Powerpoint presentation and Im trying to add music to its background but it's not working. Does there have to be any particular file type to make this work? Any help would be gratefully received.

Been there, done that, but not explained it from a distance
Presumably you've "inserted music from file" and pointed it to the file you want. Once it is there you can 'format' the sound to do things like start immediatly, play over a number of screens, etc. Since it's an 'object' on the screen - like a text box or a picture - once you click to move to the next animation it can stop the music.
Any file playable by the computer should work... but we may need more info about what you've done and what's not working.
Like adding pictures to a Word document for the first time - suddenly there is a new section of the operation you need to find out about when you first add a sound file to PowerPoint.

Hiyah, Ive done that but a little speaker appears on the screen but nothing happens when you click it. It was supposed to play automatically. It's a Harry Potter themed Maths Quest for our Primary 7 kids in the school.

Right-mouse-click on the speaker and check the options. One should be to PLAY - worthwhile doing to make sure your machine plays sounds
Edit Sound lets you do things like set the sound volume (and make sure it's not Mute).
Depending on the version of your software you could have more things to play with.
Are you doing the work on the machine that will be used to play the presentation??? Transferring the show from one machine to another without losing the file that contains the sound, etc, can be a total pain in the sitting-down-places
