Well, on a lighter note, I can definitely recommend Paddington 2! Might be good therapy if you've had a grotty time at work!

I endorse that - Scurra and I treated ourselves to seeing it in December. It's absolutely great, with a star cast who must have been fighting for the cameo scenes

I know! I was stunned at the faces that kept appearing - Hugh Grant was actually very funny, and for once not typecast; Brendan Gleeson was wonderful as "Nuckles", Julie Walters was a fabulous Mrs Bird, Hugh Bonneville made a gloriously naive Mr Brown,but then to go on to have: Peter Capaldi, Joanna Lumley, Michael Gambon and Tom Conti all in the same place was truly impressive! I really liked the way that there were nods to the "adults" in the audience, yet I'm quite sure that children would love it at face value.

This should probably have been on the "filums" thread, but hey.

...Wondering about the wisdom of having a 1930s house. We've been trying to deal with some of the water that's leaking through the original 1930s crumbling Dutch pantiles on the roof (which you can't get any more to replace them...) Oh the joys.

Finally got around to seeing this yesterday. We were the only two people in that screen at the cinema! I don't really know why I whispered when I made a comment at one point.
And thank goodness there weren't any strangers to see my damp eyes when the lights came up rather suddenly at the end!

Well, that emotional ending was very easy to anticipate, given the clues.... so I managed to get most of my tears out of the way in anticipation before the lights came up!
Though - what the heck - why shouldn't we share with the rest of the audience how delightful the whole thing was!
I note that my companion at the time (a certain jester!) complains about the dust, so I will take his word for that. On the other hand, the post-film credits are so wonderful that you are allowed to stay in your seat for a lengthy period of time, which also helps...

This was actually yesterday, but hey.

We went and did one of those nice, normal family things, but it just struck me that there REALLY isn't any need to spend money to have a nice day with the kids. Yes, I'm sure that Pickle does enjoy Waterbabies, children's music classes, baby sensory and all the other stuff, BUT...

We parked in the woods and walked through them. We saw squirrels running up into the trees, a tame crow came right up to us, there were lots of different leaves to be plucked from lots of different trees and sniffed, different bird noises to listen for, there were big puddles, lots of sticky mud to play in, a canal with barges, one of which was a mobile art gallery, dogs running around, lock gates to peer into, a big weir making a fascinating whooshing noise, a shallow river to paddle in (using K's original size 3 red wellies - still going strong after 29 years!) and a play park at the other end.

So who needs "Baby sensory" classes with that lot?

Goodness knows. Give them colourful stuff and crinkly things to play with? Bits of stick and pebbles are much more fun!
Only problem was that she was determined to carry EVERYTHING that she found...

On Friday I went to a Winnie the Pooh exhibition at the V & A. And I couldn't resist popping in to the smaller display in the next room as the title seemed rather familiar

Funnily enough, I was in the V & A today! That was the starting location for the Hidden City hunt we did.
