We’re watching last night’s episode tonight - being really careful not to see any spoilers.
I’ve started watching the whole thing from the beginning too, on series 2 at the moment - there’s things that I’d completely forgotten about.

I have been trying to piece together the various possibilities in my head prior to next week's final. At the moment there are far too many loose ends - I can't see how they can possibly answer all of those in one episode!

My current theory is that the final "bent copper" is Andrea Wise. I can't believe that it's actually Carmichael (despite all the "race claim - H" theories) simply because she is so obviously evil. Although that Chloe is definitely up to something...aarrrggghh!

...Also, waiting with bated breath to see if Hastings can top "Jesus, Mary and the wee donkey."

Well I guess that went where I generally expected it to go; it was perfectly fine and it walked that narrow line between being an acceptable "end" to the series whilst also potentially keeping the door open for the future.
The minor revelations were credible rather than absurd, and the general theme of this series (about why putting incompetent people in charge of things is generally a bad idea) sort of came good, albeit only by basically letting some folk off the hook. I'm not sure I want any of them investigating actual real crimes...
I will miss it though.

I actually thought it was very disappointing. Lots of things not cleared up, and the whole thing seemed very rushed. I also thought it was pretty silly that they didn't go any further with investigating Osbourne, since clearly Buckles has just been put in position by someone else. And as if Carmichael wouldn't have leapt on Hasting's admission!

Well, I guess it depends upon whether you go into something like this expecting all the loose ends to be tied up. What Mercutio does so well is to remind you that 'real life' isn't like that; sometimes you just don't get answers, or the answers are disappointing or trite or even absurdly coincidental.
In this case, there were a few overriding things that needed an answer, and they were given (albeit mostly being disappointing, trite or absurdly coincidental!) And there were some things that were never going to be answered, no matter how much we 'needed' them to be.
(You ought to try being a fan of SF/fantasy tv. We have entirely different standards for this sort of thing. )
