I'm happy to chip in and put people right on bits they don't get / offer checks on answers etc. for any puzzles I have solved (and can remember how to do!!), and I'm sure there would be others who would be prepared to help out too. I've asked Scurra and he thinks it's a good idea. I haven't really thought yet about the best way to do this, and obviously don't want to set it up if nobody is interested. So at the moment it's a case of hands up please to signify interest.

Puzzle catch up
Could I just ask for some feedback on whether anyone would be interested in having a catch up on any past unsolved puzzles this Easter please?

Re: Puzzle catch up
Well I've kept my workings on all the puzzles I've solved - and even have official answers on quite a few - so I am more than happy to help out with any puzzles from any previous issue.

I'm also happy to offer help. And I've still got some puzzles from the Advent issue left to complete, so would welcome help on those as well.

Well how about finishing off some of the ones you started?

Re: Puzzle catch up
My thinking was that if anyone wanted to, they could either post where they had got to on a new Google Docs so people could collaborate / offer advice to point you in the right direction OR just ask specific questions about the point at which they got stuck on the thread and get a straight answer back (either by PM or on the thread).
I'll leave this here until Friday and see if there are any more takers. I just thought it might be more fun if there were puzzles several people hadn't finished, to all work together on them. But if you don't want to then of course that is fine as well.

Re: Puzzle catch up
I've got too many undone and half done to know where to start. Also having been away I've lost the plot, always supposing I had it in the first place.

Re: Puzzle catch up
OK I thought that might happen. It's hard to know where to start, isn't it?
So...how about we start with the Advent puzzles from 2011 (because Maisie's already mentioned them) and then work back?
Scurra, would you mind sorting out a Google Docs thingy for that please?
I suggest that if you post which puzzle you'd like to look at on the individual thread, then we can take it from there. If you don't like using Google Docs then just post either where you got stuck or a specific question on the thread. Then whoever is about can dive in and help out, either on the thread with spoilers or privately if you would prefer that.
Note we can't do this for the current issue until the next one's out, but as usual I'm always happy to help individually if I can (and so are lots of others!)

Re: Puzzle catch up
I'm happy to start off - just as soon as I can figure out how to get onto Google docs - I'll start posting where I'm up to.
Re: Puzzle catch up
I'll have a look over Easter. Still got the current issue to finish. When the children have broken up I might have more time.

I've just watched this to see what google docs is. Looks complicated to me!

Re: Puzzle catch up
You don't have to use Google Docs unless you want to (but even I finally worked out how to use it in a very basic way when we did MUMS / SUMS so it can't be that hard!
)
If you would rather post questions onto the thread then we can answer them there or PM you, whichever is easiest. Google Docs is really just so you can easily post your answers if you want to get a check and then others can make comments next to them easily. But you could just as easily post whatever you want on the thread if you prefer to do that - just don't forget to spoiler everything.
And I'm prepared to bet that a very kind passing Spiderman would explain to you how to use Google Docs if you're not sure. (Hope you don't mind me saying that, bro?) He's very good an explaining things like that!!
I would also note that (now you really are going to think that jester's finally gone soft
) Scurra doesn't even mind if people have questions about past meta puzzles, if they wanted to have a go at them but didn't know where to start. I'm not very good at meta puzzles and get myself all confused about them, but I'm hoping that some of the others who are better at them could chip in and help out??

Re: Puzzle catch up
Indeed, one of the suggestions Gill has had for the meet is to do some puzzle solving using Google Docs so that people can learn how to use it - or use it better. Of course that's not helpful if you aren't coming to the meet.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

Re: Puzzle catch up
And it's also not helpful if your computer seems to have an aversion to Google docs!
However I am more than happy to help with any puzzles, including metas but would prefer not to do it on Google docs as my computer doesn't seem to like it much.
So any that people need input from me on will have to be through the forums/PMs I'm afraid.

Re: Puzzle catch up
I had that problem with our pc (which is ancient) and my work laptop. Both of them used to freeze all the time on Google Docs, but this one seems to be fine. I'm sure we'll manage something.

I didn't think you could buy laptops with chips...
