Well it's called "The Great American History Puzzle" so may not be up everyone's street but:
http://puzzle.smithsonianmag.com/
You do need to get a copy of the October issue of the Smithsonian magazine, but you can click the link to view an online version of it for free. You can put vague stuff in the form that asks for address etc.

At risk of sounding like a proper grumpy guts I think the trouble with these puzzle hunts is that if you can't do anything with any of the puzzles (or work all week so you miss most of it and then can't follow what's going on / don't have time to follow what's going on) you end up feeling incredibly isolated. The forum dies totally... and if this is for a month that could well be the final nails in the coffin for some folk...
Sorry, I know that sounds incredibly negative, but that's just how I feel, and I can't imagine I'm totally on my own feeling like that! If you all decide to join it, I would try to look at the odd bits I can manage, but I don't think it's very inclusive.

I'm not interested. It's too US centric for me, goes on too long, and i have other puzzles to do.

I'd be up for that if it was a work together puzzlehunt. Tell me more. I have no net security at the moment ( don't ask, just part of the on going saga) so I'm avoiding strange sites until I get home and have the next fight with virgin.

To be honest, I haven't really looked so far, but I thought it was more along the lines of the Google global treasure hunt than a CiSRA or SUMS event.
