Red Friday

Removed because I said I would if it offended anyone - sorry Scurra, I didn't really think of it as political

And as people are now wondering what it was about - it was 'send it on' email about supporting our troops overseas by wearing red on Fridays accompanied by a, probably not true, tearjerking story.
Having always lived near either army or air force camps and been at boarding school with a lot of girls from forces families, and knowing people who have 'died for their country' does make me very sympathetic to their causes.
I just don't always think of things which are not connected to one political party as being political. My mistake - sorry

. too.

edited because I only linked to give background to the original "pass it on message" - and, as it happens, I also disapproved of the tear-jerk sentimentality of it (also the "red blooded Briton" got my blood red).

I didn't express very clearly (mainly because I didn't really want to start a "political/ethical" debate and didn't really think enough about what I wrote) and what I meant to convey was somewhat a middle view too, ie inform of the actual "campaign", at the same time informing of the "questionable" source of the chain message, and yet extending a certain sympathy with those who are caught up in the mess. I shan't be wearing red on Fridays, but I do believe that almost every single British serviceman or woman tries to do the best they can under the circumstances to leave the place in a better situation than when they were sent there. Hence a message of support, but I didn't mean it to be an unconditional endorsement of the red friday campaign.

Hmmm. I've already expressed my reservations about having "political" threads on here (and, sorry SparkOut, but this is as political as they come!) - partly because I'm one of the worst culprits.

But this piece simply offends me. Not necessarily for the sentiment*, but for the sheer emotional blackmail techniques it employs - from the OTT story at the start, to the sheer obnoxiousness of the whole "Red Friday" section (any time anyone appeals to the "silent majority", you know they're already grasping at straws.)

(*personally, I don't agree with it, but that's a separate issue - the political bit that I don't want to get into.)

And from me, the middle road.

I didn't see Looby's post but have a fair idea what it was about because of Sparkout's reply and his attached link.

I'm against any "opinion/views debates" whatsoever because they can never be concluded- whatever the subject. However many words are spoken, everyone holds their own opinion and no-one can force their own opinion onto anyone else.

It does strike me that you two boys could quite nicely have made this subject into a debate - despite not wishing to do so.

Us ladies would probably have made up our own minds and passed no comment at all.

Grrrrr.
And any comments about ladies and tramps which are about to be spouted - well I totally agree. Especially because:
She gets too hungry, for dinner at eight
She loves the theater, but doesnt come late
Shed never bother, with people shed hate (SOOOO TRUE)
Thats why the lady is a tramp

Doesnt like crap games, with barons and earls (REMINDED ME OF COURT IN THE ACT!!)
Wont go to harlem, in ermine and pearls
Wont dish the dirt, with the rest of those girls UNLESS IT'S ABOUT SCURRA, OBVIOUSLY
