Oh, good. That means I can't be a geek, because I was 10 in 1971. Loser, freak, nerd, yes, but at least I'm not a geek. Phew.

And I'm obviously far too old as I didn't even understand what most of that was about. :? So I guess I'm not a geek either?

It's a pretty accurate list for those of my generation.
(As someone points out in the comments though, the Moon Landings for the previous generation probably trumps almost all of them! It's one thing I completely regret not being old enough to see.)

LAT - age doesn't enter into "geekiness". You can't be too old or too young to be a geek. Not understanding the references is fine - that just means you aren't one. Which is either good or bad depending upon how you look at it

So there is one thing that's good about being old then. I was given special dispensation to stay up late and watch!!

One of the best quotes I ever saw was:

"Will Man land on the moon in my lifetime?"

...because, of course, he was born in, I think, 1973...

Oh yes I remember the first moon landing. Watching them come back to earth used to make me feel seasick.

What about remembering where you were when you heard about Kennedy being shot?

Wasn't that in 1963? I was probably listening to Listen with Mother.

This is making me feel very young - people talking about things which were 'history' when I was born.

Surely that must have been the following day? I was watching television with my father in the early evening when the programme was interrupted.

Hmm. I remember none of it. I do remember there being mass heart-break at school when Take That split up. (I was not one of the crying girls).

I had to sit through a film in history which was all about the time of the Watergate Scandal. I was looking at the costumes thinking
"Hey, I had one of those midi length purple wet look coats and crinkly white knee length boots!". I was rather alarmed that an era I remember so vividly being described in a history lesson. :?

I rememmber watching the first space shuttle coming back to earth. I was at a friend's house and her granny was there. Granny said that she had no interest in the space shuttle at all, but if it exploded on re-entry she wouldn't want to have missed it! So much for the sweet old lady!
