I cannot wait for this month to finish - it has been absolutely disasterous. As mentioned previosly on another thread - I flooded my neighbour and my window almost fell out due to a rust hinge. This time ............................................................................

I go out to the shops in my luch break ....... I am sitting at the junction waiting to turn onto the main road, when the next thing I heard was a loud bang .......... :o It was a few seconds later I discovered somebody had driven into the back of my car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

Fortunately no one was hurt and we exchanged info in a very civilised manner.

When I got back - the guys typicall asked What did I reverse into.
Anyway only a few more days and it will be July :)

Oh how awful!

I had a collision in my car on Wednesday evening. A pigeon was sat in the middle of the road as I approached doing 60mph with something rather too close for comfort behind. I assumed the bird would fly away from the car, but it seems he was a bird brain! The poor thing hit the radiator grill and slid up the bonnet and windscreen in a cloud of feathers . I now need to clean the car as there is an unpleasant grey streak right up the front.

Just as well it did not hit the window, it could have shattered your windscreen.

Glad you're ok

Hi
My daughter's boyfriend swerved to avoid a pheasant and rolled the car (car was a write off) but luckily they only suffered minor injuries. So you were right not to avoid the pigeon.

I didn't consider swerving, because the pigeon could have changed direction. I couldn't brake hard because of the car behind. I did close my eyes though.  Good job the road was staight there!

I remember (many, many years ago - probably when my dinosaur poo was still poo and not stone) driving at 100 mph+ on the German Autobahn when a blackbird hit the windscreen and got it's beak stuck in the glass. It stayed there for ages, even when I tried to knock it off with the windscreen wipers it wouldn't shift, and the wipers just jammed.
Eventually it came free, and left a little hole, like a bullet mark in the windscreen.

UUrgh. Nasty.

Glad you're ok Tricia, and Giraffe. I've had 2 accidents in the past year -
1. Driving into an off duty policewoman's car because I couldn't see past a truck.

2. OH drive the car over automatic bollards and one ended up embedded in the middle of the engine. The really scary part about that was that I was told that the car was being crushed, and they would only write it off because it was far too badly damaged. A couple of weeks ago I got a letter from a man who had bought the car for his wife. He wanted the service history!!!

Glad you are all OK. Some scary stories there. Hope July is better for you Tricia.

So what did you tell the man Bunnylump?

This thread brings back memories.

Many, MANY years ago I made an early start from Newcastle to drive to a customer on the outskirts of Edinburgh. It was just that hazy-in-between-light before daylight actually arrives, and I'd only got as far as Gosforth Park Racecourse when a blackbird flew into me on the drivers side window - 6 inches from my face. I swerved automatically (not knowing what had hit me) and clipped the curb blowing out a tyre :(

NOT an idea start to a long working day.

The only other 'collision' that comes to mind, somebody else actually DID reverse into me. A flat-bed truck. I was turning into a side road, and came to a halt as I could see him ahead. This incident was notable for two reasons:

1) He took a 20-30 foot run up before hitting me. All the time I watched him approach I was thinking "Of course he's going to stop!"

2) He was a window fitter, and his name was............... Crackette

I'm so glad I can't drive. If I did I expect this thread would be just dedicated to my accidents, I'm lethal enough on two legs :D

I knew someone who hit a deer on Cannock Chase, it wrote the car off, but I don't suppose the deer was in great condition either.

You see, I usually only manage to hit inanimate objects, like gate-posts!! I still have 3 of my four grandparents, and both their houses have the most horrible driveways. I've hit both before now. Tend to not bother any more and just park on the road - its safer!!!

For a moment I thought you were going to say you had run over the 4th one

So what did you tell the man Bunnylump?
I told him the truth. That the insurance investigator had told me that the car had significant engine and chassis damage and would never be safe or reliable. Also I said that he really should get back to whoever sold him the car and contact the police. He said that it was OK, he had been told that the car had "a little damage to the bumper"(!) The trouble was that he had a thick Eastern European accent and I'm not sure he was understanding what I was saying. I kept repeating what I was trying to tell him and he kept asking me for the service history and changing the subject. I came to the conclusion that he sounded a bit dodgy himself, and eventually he hung up. :?

Me too. It was my friend, who was driving her husband's BRAND NEW company car back from the garage, because he was at a meeting and couldn't pick it up. She always drives carefully (lives in the middle of the countryside on teeny dangerous lanes) but could do nothing when a fully grown stag chose to leap across from one hedgerow to the other as she drove down the lane. It landed full square across her windscreen, and died. Absolutely horrific. His car was immovable, blocking the lane, and had a massive dead and bleeding stag sprawled across the front of it. Very nasty. :(

Oh DEAR!!!!  He should have a shop dedicated to him at Beconscot model village. They have some great names like "Bodgitt and Scarper, builders" "P.Green grocers" etc. Well worth a visit, if anyone's in the area: it's like a little time capsule, made in the 1930s. Has tremendous charm and I'd thoroughly recommend it.http://www.bekonscot.com/

That reminds me of the time, when I was working as an audit junior trainee for a big firm of accountants. (Me :lowest of the low, but managers with expensive cars) A manager asked me to go reception, where his car was just back from being repaired after being stolen and wrecked by joyriders. I took delivery of the keys, and took it to the local car park, locked it carefully, checking all the doors as I didn't know if it had central locking, and returned the keys to the manager. The following day I was called to see the manager, who asked me where I had parked his car! He couldn't find it, the car park attendant had remembered me bringing it in and helped him search for it, but it had been stolen during the afternoon. It turned up a few weeks later burned out. It was about the 4th time it had been stolen, so I think he replaced it with something less desirable.

My hairdresser, in his long lost youth, had a bright red, brand new, porsche. Everytime he went out in it he was stopped by the police.

It was stolen, and 4 weeks later it hadn't been found. He asked the question "How come everytime I went out in it you stopped me, but now it's been stolen you can't find it?"

It turned up shortly afterwards- burnt out...................on the police field!

Yes which was ridiculous, because I had even checked the boot was locked. Couldn't prove it though.

...or was it you that stole the car and burned it out? I'm getting a bit worried about you and fire-starting after the fireman conversation...

A few years ago, while out on my bike, I took a pigeon on my left hand at about 80 mph-ish (Ahhem officer!! ). It just flew straight out of a hedge and there was nothing I could do. Even despite my glove having carbon fibre knuckle shields and armour all down the fingers it really really really hurt. The pigeon didn't fair too well I'm afraid and ended up all over me and the left hand side of the bike. I think I was lucky it didn't tip me off to be honest. Anyway, I stopped to survey the damage, more to my hand than anything, and took off my glove. About 5 mins later, after picking the larger parts of bird off me and the bike, the pain had subsided a little bit so I decided to ride home but I could'nt get my glove back on as my hand had swelled up so much. Not much fun.

Cheers. BB.
