airconditioners

We just changed all the airconditioners in the house. The livingroom one is fine. But then we don't use it much because of the ceiling fans.
The ones in the bedroom though are odd. They are split type, and when it rains there is an odd smell coming out of them. Is this normal for a new a/c? Does anyone know how to get rid of it? I've noticed it for about 2 weeks now, but don't know what to do about it. It's almost a musty smell.

Air conditioning is not a common thing in the UK Kasmom, it doesn't often get warm enough to warrent it, except in shopping centres and some offices so unless there's an air conditioning engineer amongst us I don't think you'll find the answer here.

I'll ask him when he gets back from drumming. (He's a drumming air conditioning engineer)!

...apart from the puzzles, that is.
I thought I'd save her the bother of posting this one. Also I hit myself to save her doing that as well...

Just asked him, and he says he couldn't say what that would be without looking at it. Now much as I like you, I'm not funding the air fare, I'm afraid!!

If it's new then I think you should perhaps get the people who installed it to come back and have a look.
Sorry to be so unhelpful.

Oh come on, why not send him over!
I told the husband it stinks and the guy is supposed to come over early next week. But then he was supposed to come last week for something else
I wish they weren't needed here. But honestly, we just can't sleep at night without them. During the day if the wind is blowing, the doors and windows are open. At night the mosquitos would eat us alive.

I'm no expert, but I reckon that if an AC is "smelly" it could be that the condenser is not draining and you are getting stale water sitting in there. It should either go out through a drain pipe thingy or should be evaporated by the heat generated by the cooler. Again, I'm no expert but I have had all sorts of things go wrong with server room AC kit over the years. I honestly think "smelly" is a bit bad. I know you don't want to (and I have been to HK and really do understand), but I would turn it off until its been fixed.
Just my six-penneth. BB.

OH made an appointment for the a/c guy to come over today. We would have had a typhoon 9

last night wouldn't we? He called and cancelled this morning. I don't know why he doesn't want to climb out my windows with the typhoon going? The winds have gone down from 200 km to only around 90 km Plenty safe right?
Another week of stinky a/c, or none at all. We've worked out the guilty one, and BB, OH says you are right, something about the drain pipe not lined up right. I don't care, I just want it fixed. I'm not used to sleeping without my mink blanket and down comforter on. It seems strange to kick off the covers and sleep in such an eposed state. OH would have it on all year long-me, I'm a hot house flower or a cold blooded creature, I don't do cold well at all. And the poor little bug, no a/c and she wakes up wetter now than she did when she was in diapers.
