The Musical Quiz

#1 Post by Looby » Fri Jan 30, 2009 7:45 pm

I had a few clues up on 'the other place' to finish a competition that has to be in at the end of the month. There are still one or two that I'm not sure of.

Instructions:
The clue's are all linked to songs. The answer is either a title or the key line by which it is known. Most clues are cryptic. The number after the clue is the number of words in the answer.

Sinatra wouldn't use Satnav (5)
Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter (3)

Just after dawn (3) I have two ideas for this Morning has broken and Early one morning- which do you think?

If that was the name of the song, I'd agree with maisie ladybird. And I imagine that you rejected The Four Seasons too.
But both of those look like the right answers - and if they are not, there'd better be a really good reason!

My problem with The Four Seasonsis that I didn't think it was a song.
For the Sinatra one I have It's nice to go trav'ling, but that doesn't seem very well known

That's what I meant, and I'm assuming Scurra meant too - that the definition of "song title" may have been so badly bent that that is what was intended as an answer. If not, then there will have to be something very convincing to make one believe otherwise.

FWIW I think Early One Morning (just as the sun was ri-i-sing...) is the right answer too.

FWIW - I disagree with Sparkout this time (a rare occurence). The wording "Just AFTER Dawn" points to the othe one in my mind :)

I've made a suggstion elsewhere on the Sinatra one, but I was heading in the wrong direction I think (with or without SatNav). I loved the 5-word suggested song from our resident ladybird, but I'm sure that there's only 2 words in the title :(

How about Fly Me To The Moon ?

How about Ain'tcha Ever Comin' Back?
or I'm Walking Behind You or, coming to that it could be one of Nancy's!! These Boots Are Made For Walkin'

Didn't you think All four seasons by Sting was well known enough? Maybe I only knew it because I listened to that album so much...

Sadly, although it makes sense, I think the Sting track isn't that well known.
The Sinatra track needs 5 words.

Being that Sinatra wouldn't use Sat(ellite)Nav, and the Moon is a satellite, and he's asking someone else to fly him there,it seems to fit, IMHO.

Not if you're going there in the daytime :D

That would be the one about the Irish space mission?

I heard it was called off because they couldn't find a bottle big enough to hold the stick for the rocket.

Is it still allowed to make Irish jokes? I haven't heard one of these for a few hundred years now. No offence meant, of course!

 :? You had me all confused there for a minute, Clvrlad, I thought you were replying to Looby!
And just for you
One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints, and were stuck in the thick head. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer, and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink, held it out over the beer, and started yelling, "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT YOU BA**ARD!!!!"

And well done you, Looby! :D

I'd have actually done quite well on that quiz Looby :)

Englishman, Irishman, and a Scotsman go into a bar. The barman looks at them and says:
"Is this some kind of joke?"
