Word Zendo
Re: Word Zendo
Fair point.
[edit: does the rule specifically take account of words like that?]

Re: Word Zendo
Excuse me for having my peroxide out again, but could someone please explain to me what on Earth descenders and ascenders are?

Re: Word Zendo
Well since you once guessed a rule that incorporated something similar, I am surprised at your expression of ignorance.
gjpqy are the letters that descenders.
bdfhklt are the ones that have ascenders.
(Obviously I am only including lower case here. Upper case becomes much more controversial.)

Re: Word Zendo
Oh right. Thanks. I just didn't know what they were called!

Re: Word Zendo
Good master, as I have now used my guess, I will submit a new pair of words to gain another (hopefully). I would suggest that the Buddha would welcome evilkeen, but would not like kingsley. (Says he hoping that she will not jump in here with her guess )
Re: Word Zendo
I would like to make a guess at the rule.
I think that the budda likes words which have either an ascender(s) or a descender(s), but not both.

Re: Word Zendo
Tehe, just what I was thinking! Well done (if you're right!)
Re: Word Zendo
You were a little unlucky with your guess, which was clearly so close that the correct one was relatively evident.

Re: Word Zendo
Ah well, that's the rules, I had to earn another guess, so it left the way open for kingsley to jump in with the (hopefully) correct answer, so good luck to her!

If it is right then I'll have to come up with one of my own! I'll apologise in advance if it's not very good. I'll also need to read through the other pages to see what has already been used, because I only joined in on about page 13!

Re: Word Zendo
Well done to kingsley. (Even if the Buddha does prefer evilkeen.)
The problem was that all the words given or suggested had ascenders, descenders or both - there had been no words with neither. As the rule was 'with ascenders or descenders but not both' then that meant that words without them were also out.
evilkeen's suggestion would have meant that cream, which doesn't mix ascenders and descenders (because it lacks both), would have the Buddha nature - but it doesn't.
And yes, evilkeen, the tittles on i and j are not counted as ascenders.

Ok then, it looks like it's my turn.
The budda has told me that he has a sweet tooth, but although he likes chocolate he dislikes cake. To save Scurra from asking, he like neither apples or bananas, although he does rather like raspberries and kiwis.

Does the Buddha prefer to get his news from a newspaper rather than use the internet?

Re: Word Zendo
May I enquire whether Buddha prefers Christmas pudding to Syrup-sponge pudding?

Welcome, master!
Would the Buddha consider holly to be preferable to ivy?

Re: Word Zendo
Student giraffe, the buddha dislikes both Christmas pudding and Syrup-sponge pudding.
Student Bunnylump, once again the buddha likes neither holly nor ivy, as he thinks that they are both hideous plants.
Perhaps a hint, the buddha is fond of things that are woven, but not of things that have been knitted.

Master, does the Buddha prefer women to men?
Re: Word Zendo
Student evilkeen, this may sound rather strange, but the buddha likes neither women nor men.
Having said that, there are some people on this forum who he is rather fond of (he likes BassBloke and pnward), but there are some which he dislikes (Bunnylump and Scurra are examples).
