Christmas Quiz
Christmas Quiz
My son's school has given out a quiz.
I haven't tried it yet, and he photocopied it for me, and I have enlarged and photographed it. The print was tiny to begin with and our printer is on the blink (Father Christmas has been asked for a new one) so lines don't come out straight and words can be blurred, so having been copied twice it may not be legible. Ask if you need me to decipher any of the writing!
Anyway, I thought some of you might enjoy it.

Question 5.
Sorry this one is rather out of focus. It says 14 bottles of wine and 18 pine logs . The sign on the bridge says Max Wt 1 1/2 tons (I hope the rest is legible)

Re: Christmas Quiz
I have numbers for all of the letters in question 3, but one (or maybe two) look dodgy. I may have to compare notes with Fernando . (or anyone else who is trying it) . Fernando says he has done the crossword.
Re: Christmas Quiz
Question 3 has two typos in it. Ask if you are attempting this and I will post them.
Re: Christmas Quiz
I was looking at the Good King Wenceslaus one and then realised that I had no idea what stones and pounds were, let alone how many there were in a tonne...

All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".

Re: Christmas Quiz
Isn't that what google is for? 14 pounds in a stone, 16 ounces in a pound. No idea about tonnes.

Re: Christmas Quiz
Imperial weights:
1 pound (lb) = 16 ounces (oz)
1 stone (st) = 14 lb
1 hundredweight (cwt) = 8 st = 112 lb
1 ton = 20 cwt = 2240 lb
1 pound (lb) = 16 ounces (oz)
1 stone (st) = 14 lb
1 hundredweight (cwt) = 8 st = 112 lb
1 ton = 20 cwt = 2240 lb
Unfortunately, the number of ways of doing something wrong far exceed the number of ways of doing it right. G. Kasparov

Re: Christmas Quiz
Well we handed our answers in. The cat and mouse one was quite good fun .
Re: Christmas Quiz
I'm saving them for Christmas!
Re: Christmas Quiz
The deadline for handing them in was today, so we didn't have that luxury.
Re: Christmas Quiz
Well I think they would probably have been quite surprised to get an entry from me anyway!

I'm afraid I saw numbers and ran away...
You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

Re: Christmas Quiz
Well the Maths department annual quiz is likely to have a few numbers.
