Why not? After all, 14 pounds is the very definition of ONE STONE :)

(Hmm. Caught out by the quote tag not playing nicely with the spoiler tag...)
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.

LAT and I think the answer is Bobby Hendricks

We still can't get

It can turn a frown upside-down which we think begins with CH

AFL-CIO member who spawns by moonlight which we think begins with GR

A little break for oneself which we think begins with TI

Ah, brilliant, thank you.

As for the other puzzle, yes that would work.

There must be a reason they are making us split up the words like that, but I can't see anything being spelled out in initial letters of the splits.

No, nor can I. Scurra, did you get any of those?

Also (barely dare ask now! ) was this the last of the "slightly more accessible" puzzles? I liked these once I had got started...
