I was walking through the capital with a friend of mine, as we were passing spitalfields market, we were animatedly talking about the Novello awards.
"I don't know how you managed to score tickets for the awards ceremony! That's big up Respect, Adam!" I exclaimed.
"I know! It was pure fluke, I was in the bookies and a toff punter had a big win on the Horses, and he just started giving stuff out like he was some kind of celebrity."
"Yeah, we'll be hobnobbing with the real celebs soon - hey what? I didn't mean *that* soon - isn't that Mo farah over there?"
Sure enough, we spotted the famous athlete chewing on a Mutton sandwich. "So he's not vegan after all then?" I asked.
"No, just that as a muslim he needs meat to be properly prepared."
"Still, it doesn't seem to be to his taste," I remarked, as the gold medallist made a face and dropped the remains of the sandwich into a handy composting bin by The Garden Wall, leaving at a pace we could not match.
"So how much did that punter win then?" I asked, curiously.
"Not sure of the total winnings, but it was a big lot. The amazing thing is, he only staked A Bob, but it was a massive accumulator so he came out with something astronomic, like in the millions."
"So was he someone famous himself, this toff?" I asked. "Are we going to see him at the awards if he had spare tickets to give away?"
"Not sure who he was, but I'd really like to say thank you properly, while we're there enjoying the food and drink and atmosphere."
"Yes!" I laughed, "it's surely going to be better than a Mutton sandwich!"
Just then I tripped, and my friend tried to catch me before faceplanting into a road sign on a lamp post. Unfortunately Adam was only partially successful, as my head clanged into the sign, seeing stars for a moment. Neither was my shoe saved, where the cracked paving slab had gouged a deep scratch into the Leather.
"Ack" I spluttered unintelligibly before pulling myself together. "That's a pain, these are my best calf Leather pair," I moaned.
"Wow, you're such a fashionista, aren't You?" he laughed. "At least they're not your alligator pair."
Slightly more cautiously, we continued, with my ears still ringing.
