IMPORTANT : Board update - *** PLEASE READ ***

#1 Post by Scurra » Fri Jun 30, 2017 12:01 am

The board software has been updated successfully, but it seems that this has caused a lot of problems with logging in; you enter your username and password, and the site shows you as logged in at the bottom, but you are not actually shown as signed in at the top.
This is due to the "cookies" that the system uses internally to track you in your web-browser (so that it knows you are logged in.) The new system uses slightly different settings, and can't read the old ones properly.

The solution is to delete the cookies that are set by puzzlebrains.co.uk. Unfortunately, there are quite a few browsers out there (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Edge ....) and they all have slightly different ways of storing the cookies within their systems. If you do a search for "remove cookies for one site Chrome" (or Firefox or whatever your browser is), there are good guides as to how to delete just the ones for puzzlebrains.co.uk
You could, of course, delete all of them, but that will cause problems with any other sites you visit!

If you are still having problems, email me at scurra@scurra.com and we'll try to figure out what can be done.

(As a side note, perhaps people could post something in a /general thread when they are able to log in. That way we'll know who is here!)

p.s. It has also been noted that there is a link at the bottom right of the forum page which reads "Delete all board cookies". You'd think this would actually do the job, but, of course, it only works for the "new" cookies and not the ones for the old version! Once you have manually cleared them (as outlined above) and logged in properly, then that link will work. But until then, it does nothing. Sorry about that. :)
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".
