*** NEW FORUM VISITORS *** PLEASE READ ***

#1 Post by Scurra » Sun Sep 28, 2008 7:41 pm

Welcome to the Puzzlebrains forum. This is the place to come to talk to other members of the Puzzlebrains community, to discuss particular puzzles, share or request hints, or simply chat about anything you want. If you're new here, please take the time to read this introduction to help you find your way around the forum.

The Magazine puzzles are discussed in the Magazine part of the forum. Individual issues have their own sections and there are also sections for the other puzzles found in the magazine. If you want to post hints or need help from fellow forum members, then that's the place to go.

Please do not post specific solutions anywhere on this forum. Indeed, please refrain from posting explicit hints at all unless they are essential to a discussion; particularly when this relates to one of the "metapuzzles" (the puzzle that yields the final answer for a magazine issue.) If you need to include hints, please use the spoiler tag button (highlight the text and then click "spoiler") - it will then be hidden behind a black bar which can be read by highlighting like this text. Complete answers to puzzles are likely to be removed by a moderator.

Finally, here are a few other things that other forum users have found useful to know:

Near the top of the screen is a Search feature which will allow you to look for a particular topic without having to read through dozens of pages of threads.

You can send to and receive messages from other forum members by clicking on the Private Messages (PM) option, also at the top of the screen. If it says "0 new messages" this means none since you last looked at your Inbox so it will always say that while you are in your inbox. Unread messages in your inbox or on the forums are indicated by a coloured symbol to the left. You can keep your screen up to date by hitting the Refresh button on your browser - particularly useful if the forum is very busy or you are having a Private Message (PM) conversation.
Important note: when you send a PM to someone it will remain listed in your Out box until the recipient opens it (at which point it will move to your Sent box.) And until they open the message you can still edit it (or even delete it!) In other words, the recipient will see that they have a message waiting in their Inbox, but it won't leave your Out box until they read it.

You can only change your password and contact details on the main site, not from within the Forum. If you do not wish your email details to be available to others, you will need to change the first setting under "Edit Global Settings" in the Board Preferences section on your User Control Panel.

You can always return to the main puzzles section of the site (leaving the forum) by clicking on the Puzzlebrains logo in the top left hand corner of the screen.

Enjoy the forum!

Disappearing Posts

From time to time, people have reported that posts have "gone missing".
One possible explanation for this is that several people attempt to reply to a message in a thread at the same time. When this happens, the system will flash up a message to you saying that another reply has been posted and offering you the chance to edit your message.
Your message has therefore not been posted in the thread!
If you still want to post it, you need to click the submit button again.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
All of my puzzles are simple and obvious. For certain values of "simple" and "obvious".
